Why are girls so mean to skinny girls?

It seems like Skinny girls get judged all the time. Other girls make fun of them, and call them names like crack whores and anorexic when most of the time this is not true. Are we in an age where it is not politically correct to make fun of anything except free reign on making fun of skinny girls?

You cannot make fun of overweight people because it is not there choice..but a girl who works out and eats healthy is the target of scrutiny?

I hate to say it, but ladies, is this all just really jealousy?

Do you ladies ever try to size each other up? I don't mean like in the girls bathroom, which I do totally always wonder what gets talked about...

ok, I have read that the media is a very negative force behind how girls feel about themselves. Is it possible that OTHER GIRLS and sometimes another girl that you might know well is actually creating more negativity then the media does?


Like does it hurt more when a model on TV makes you think that is the ideal, or when a girl you know who is a mutual friend makes fun of your weight ?


So are other girls creating the negativity between woman in the world?

I had many experiences of this type.

I found it amusing - well, not really, more infuriating - how most girls that ever criticised me were those who were the most overweight or those just a bit "chubby", but very insecure. It was them that just didn't want to stop bringing up the subject.

I'm a thin girl who most of the time eats healthy, good food as well. And there is NOTHING more unnerving than a girl that is overweight - and who doesn't lift a finger to change it - criticising my weight or my eating habits. I don't call them "fat" because it seems taboo in today's society and because, hey, I don't want to hurt them and their body shape is not my business in the slightest. But "anorexia", real or imagined, is all the rage.

I just dislike the spitefulness against thin girls, and the double standards.

If I am thin and healthy and somebody is making spiteful comments, it angers me. I'm not one to bad-mouth other girls. How you are is, to an extent, your personal choice and that has nothing to do with me.

But when I get attacked just for the way I look and no other reason (because I avoid attention nearly all the time), it just seems a bit unfair.

No, it isn't the media that generates the most pressure and hate amongst women - it's just women, being awful to each other. But media does have its influence. Again, without people to back it up, media's "ideals" wouldn't matter a jot.

I think it stems from jealousy and has turned into something hateful.

Personally, I don't really care. Each person is entitled to do what they like with their body, but I do encourage a healthy image. Some girls are naturally skinny, some starve themselves to be that way. Some people are naturally big boned, whilst others have poor dietary and fitness habits. I think everyone should stop focusing on size itself and worry about their health.

Yes, ladies size each other up. Me and my gfs will often say, "omg, how nice is her ass". We don't say anything malicious though. No, not because we are so altruistic and kindhearted, but because we recognise that we have our own flaws and insecurities and pointing out other peoples would be hypocritical. But a lot of girls are like that. I often see girls look me up and down and give me the stank eye. I don't really give a sh*t.

Yuppp :) I think its just cos I don't see a beautiful girl and think, "eurgh I hate her". I just think, "wow, she's stunning". Girls compare themselves to others too much.

Women are always the worst critics of each other. And yes. Do you notice when women go out any where their usually all dolled up! Even at the grocery store! They are constantly in competition with each other. I am so tired of hearing other women make ignorant comments about someone. They are jealous and insecure which I find very sad. I have more important things to worry about, like making sure I'm healthy with no heart disease or cancer and making sure that my kids are safe and healthy. The media also plays a big part, just look as the news reporters they look like models. Too much emphasis in society for women to look perfect. I once heard an employee at a department store make a comment on how it was important to hire skinny, pretty girls. How shameful! She was a woman!

@ the employee. Maybe it is part of company policy, and the business has shown to make much more profit to hire skinny pretty girls.

I don't think it is to the same level for men, but the same thing happens with guys. Most guys in the media are very attractive and muscular. Check that out sometimes.

I would say they do it out of jealousy, Because honestly look at how many girls complain about there weight and how they always feel like they need to lose weight even when people tell them they don't need to. Common reaction to seeing someone skinner would most likely be jealousy.

All girls are jealous of each other for some stupid reason or other.

If we feel fat, we hate skinny girls. If we feel too skinny/not curvy, we hate the curvier chicks.

If we're dumb we hate smarter girls. If we're smart we hate the attention all the dumb girls seem to get. Why be the "dumb blond" when you can have soft brown hair, with no stereotype attached? Why have plain brown hair when your hair could be light and shiny and attractive?

Etc. etc...

Half the time jealousy is complete bs. Sometimes it's justified (a partner spending more time with other people, someone having everything and you nothing) but a lot of the time it just comes from over-thinking lots of things. Either way, jealous is definitely easy to fall into and women can be fickle people.

I know what you mean. I'm a naturally pettie girl. 95 pounds, 5'2 with 32B boobs. Everywhere I go - even in just sweats or a tanktop.. I ALWAYS get judgmental or dirty stares or looks from people mainly girls of course. I can always feel people looking me up and down as if it weren't obvious enough. I love my body because it is healthy to me, it is my natural weight and I wouldn't look good bigger because I'm proportional. However society is keeping me away from showing my confidence. I always feel like I am being judged. It also makes it worse how I always hear guys don't find skinny girls womanly even with our curves, boobs and bum. OK not so much for the bum, but I'm not flat of course .. However I always feel like I am flat because I am surrounded with girls with much bigger bums.

But to be honest, American society is trying to force this idea that curvy=fat & that fat=healthy and normal when it's not, just as skinny doesn't mean healthy.

It's just a way to make fat chicks feel better.

Most skinny girls I know don't work out and eat healthy and they huff and puff when walking up the stairs just as much as a fat girl would.

I say let's not promote fat or skinny, let's promote healthy. Neither extremes are attractive

@UPDATE: Yes, girls are the source of each others insecurities for the most part. Girls try to blame the media, but let's be honest. If Shine.Yahoo does an article on celebs without makeup, girls condemn them, talk negatively about their dark circles, puffiness, blemishes, acne etc. Everything women in the real world have. BUTTTT, if Shine posts an article on makeup, girls condemn the celebs for being "fake."

Demi Lovato was "too thin" before her breakdown, but at the VMA's, she was too "fat."

Girls condemn one another for flaws and when the media brings light to it, those same girls blame the media.

Girls often have this condescending attitude towards other girls who take care of themselves(wear makeup, exercise, eat healthy etc) and to make themselves feel better, they put those girls down.

America has an obesity problem that of course, the obese and overweight fail to acknowledge. They enjoy making excuses. It's just easier to put down thin girls.

No matter what there will be something you will be judged and made fun of for. But there is a difference between skinny healthy and overweight. from expierence most of the skinny girls I know are lazy and are SUPER unhealthy but same with the heavier girls.

I am always having bigger girls come out with some kind of nasty comment, the thing is I am nothing but nice to them. Having people tell me why skinny is so awful has made even more self conscious and depressed. I look at other girls and always think they are better then me. I am always nice but none of them like me.
