What's the Difference Between Dinosaurs and Dragons?

There is no evidence dragons actually existed but in my opinion that doesn't mean some sort of flying lizard/dinosaur couldn't have been what people thought was a dragon back then.

You have to wonder though even the greatest lies and myths have a kernel of truth in them, you have the wonder were the legends came from especially with there being so many all over the world and with them being very similar.

Anyway the difference between dinosaurs and dragons at least the ones in myth is that dinosaurs there is great variety in terms of species, dragons are pretty consistent, mythological dragons breath fire, dinosaurs do not and so on and so on.

Dinosaurs are real creatures which lived on this planet milliards of years ago while dragons are fictional creatures that fly and breath fire. There are dragon species that can fly, but obviously can't breath fire.

@madhatters4 She is indicating that dinosaurs could be defined as dragons. Any attempt to claim that the only difference between the two is that one is real and the other is not is circular. It is like saying that the difference between the rose and la rosa is that one is real the other is not.

Of course I know dragons aren't/weren't real. That's so basic and simple, I'm disgusted mostly everyone only thought of that explanation. You're one of the only ones who knew i meant feature wise.

how is it circular to say that one is real and one isn't real? if someone asked me what was the difference between the battle of the bulge and the battle for westeros I'd say one was a fictional battle written in a story and the other was a real battle. That's not circular that's defining the difference... To suggest the difference is breathing fire or collecting treasure is to even acknowledge that dragons are real. They don't breath fire, they don't collect treasure, they don't have scales or wings because they aren't real.

Now if she asked whats the difference between the real dinosaurs and the mythical (fictional/fake/false/not true) creature dragons then maybe we can have that discussion but even that is absurd because we're comparing things that are incomparable

@madhatters4 The meanings of words are not set in stone by divine law, even scientists often change how they define something (whenever an animal that has never been seen pops up scientists need to decide whether this is a new species or a different breed of another species, based on the features they use to define that species, whether or not they evolved from the same ancestor does not mean a thing since a lot of both "species" and "breeds" evolved from something else). If somebody were to define dragon as "a giant reptile" then dragons would indeed exist as they would be a synonym for dinosaurs and other large reptiles. Thus, to claim that dinosaurs do exist and dragons don't you need to illuminate their different features.

Well apart from the obvious: Dragons are reptile creatures, dinosaurs aren't. Dragons have wings, they can fly, they breathe fire.
There are also Wyverns, those are basically dragons but they only have two legs.
