The bright blue colored flame near the match head indicated that this is a "strike anywhere" match, all you need is a rough surface and friction to cause a chemical reaction by mixing an ignition charge with an accelerant. Normal matches don't have any sort of ignitor mixed in, the match box creates sparks. Strike-anywhere matches are also usually water resistant.
