Do you believe in MBTI types?

MBTI, also known as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, in short was created to deduct a persons psychological type, or as some would say their 'personality type'. There are 16 MBTI types that hold 4 key letters in their name that differentiates them from other types. The letters are based on one's psychological traits being:

First Letter: Extraverted vs Introverted = E/I
Second Letter: Intuitive vs Observant = N/S
Third Letter: Thinking vs Feeling = T/F
Forth Letter: Judging vs Prospecting = J/P
Sometimes people accompany their MBTI type with 1 additional letter being "-A" or "-T" which is Assertive vs Turbulent. A type may generally look like this 'ENTJ' or this with the extra letter, 'ENTJ-A'.

Each Myers-Briggs type possesses peculiar descriptions and mental characteristics which may for show how someone could possibly think or act. Many take online tests just to see what their Myers-Briggs type is, a popular site is 16personalities. com as it's commended for its accuracy.

In this poll, I'm curious to know how many people take MBTI seriously. I know some are against the thought of it and think it's nonsense. I've seen a few people question its authenticity and compare it with horoscopes. While some enjoy the idea of it and think it does have considerable information behind it.

I personally believe in MBTI to a certain extent. I think it does have some credible information associated with it and I find myself interested in the purpose of it. I don't like to think of MBTI as a procedure to see what someone's 'personality type' is however. I like to see it as a way to find one's 'thinking type'. I hope at least 1 G@G user besides myself is interested in this topic, lol. Also, please correct what I've said if necessary. I'm always open to corrections and new information~!

I do believe it works pretty good. I mean, no matter your passion, your job, youe hapiness, the way you explore life is unique to you.

Have you read the complete article that follows your personality type?

Mine was very, very accurate. I mean, when they do such a wall of text speaking about at least 10 different theme, having only one that feels too global to be accurate is pretty much accurate to me. At least the most you can get without knowing me.

Also, doesn't dictate how you live now. But how you are deep down. Recently I am overthinking a lot. But I still got 93% feeling, and I know it is true. I've been thinking since anxiety showed up. But I work with feelings a lot more.

So that's my opinion ;)

I completely agree. Just because you have been given a MBTI type doesn't mean it has to dictate who you are or everything you do and feel.

Yup~! There was a time where I'd sit and read up on my type, just to laugh about how accurate it was to myself. Peoples stereotypes of it were hilarious to me too because a lot of the time, it was near to precise.

As someone who's a thinker, I questioned my type for a while because as you may have seen, some T's are deemed to be "cold" and "don't care for people's feelings". Which I'm not the warmest person ever but I'm not a complete witch, haha. I do have a thread of human emotion and try to be careful with my words when I can. Lol xD

Well that is why there also a %, you're not 100% thinking and that is for a reason ! And that is why even for a 93% "feeling" guy, I have more than a few thoughts, impressive right? :p :p
But I know I am trully myself when I feel more than I do, and for that I find the website very helpful. You can start thinking about what job fits the most your "inner self". (So to speak)

Jobs related to MBTI do somewhat interest me. My type is associated with liking science, which I do like. I'm not completely sure if I'd follow a path into it though. :D

I am not sure about jobs yet either, but I agree with their text on careers. My type need to have their contribution to be meaningful... And all I wish for is not to work in a multinational compagny. Seems about right 🤔

I'm low-key trying to figure out what your MBTI type is... I'm not highly knowledgeable of all types, only ones that family/friends and self possess. However, I'm going to take a wild guess you're an IXFJ, precisely INFJ. My friend is one, haha.

On the topic of jobs and MBTI, it has slightly inspired me to look more into science as a hobby and/or a job than I did.

Damn, I tried. I didn't think about ENFP, even though both my mum and friend are the same. If I hadn't shown my type with pictures and so on, it may have been difficult to figure mine. I'm not sure if I come across INTP or not online, I only know so in person, haha.

I like physics because it covers a decent range of things I'm interested in like astronomy.

I found MBTI information useful for explaining why I view or behave certain ways, and found that which aspects of me I should improve.

Would you feel more content being considered an IXTJ? That way you can fit into both types, haha. I used to be crossed between 2 types too (INTP x INTJ), I just read about both types and decided what I was most like.

Same can be said about knowing yourself. You don't actually Know yourself, as you only have knowledge of yourself. You could not begin to grasp the totality of everything that you have been, are, and will be.

Intriguing response. That's one thing I agree with, is not knowing yourself or another person completely. In order to get a precise result you have to answer honestly but how are you to deduct an accurate MBTI type if you can't answer knowingly. The tests ask questions based around peoples actions and thoughts. One could simply answer wrongfully because they believe they'd act a certain way but in reality would act differently than thought. Some may answer based on their best self not necessarily their general self also.

It makes sense don't worry, I just don't think the system is pragmatic.

There's a problem in psychology that has been of recent debate and it's the idea that we as a society perpetuate expectations of people and by cataloging and categorizing others, we only make that problem or idea become that persons identity.

I could be misunderstanding but that may closely relate to what someone said. That some people would feel dictated by the MBTI types? If so, it shouldn't be something to dictate you but give you a small idea of yourself or someone.

Of course, you can't get an idea of your type if your answers in the test are based on misconceptions of yourself. Which in the case, if someone got a particular result due to subconscious lies they may feel inclined to act a way not loyal to themselves. - more so than what they would do with a better result.

MBTI types should only go so far.

They're descriptions, and a way of grouping people. They're not -real-. I mean there are real differences between people, but there aren't real boxes. It's like saying 'is it true that some people are short, some are medium, some are tall'. well, yes, but there aren't three separate types of people, I could just as easily make 4 categories, or 2, or a billion.

So the question becomes 'is the categorization useful'?

I see your point. That's why I think MBTI should only be taken seriously to a certain point. It can provide some useful information but it shouldn't be taken wholesomely. In the end, it's putting people into groups and generalising them. Some information may be accurate but there's over 7 billion people in the world. We can't place everyone into just one of the 16 MBTI types.

It can give a rough idea, for example introversion or extroversion will be accurate, but you can get completely diffrent results for the rest simply depending on your mood, so as a strict guideline it's inaccurate
