What's the most heroic thing that you've done in your life?

The more heroic thing I have done was be there for my sister when she was young. She is 7 years younger than me. During my teenage years my mother was severely depressed and would sleep a lot. She was afraid to drive and just had really bad generalized anxiety. My father was an alcoholic and wouldn't come home straight after work, opting instead to stay at the local watering hole until late.
The local elementary school was right up the road. Often times I would take the mile and a half hike up to the school to "pick her up". Sometimes she was too tired, so I put her up on my shoulders and walked her all the way home like that. Very fond memories.
One time while cleaning the dishes, she scratched her eye after getting dish soap in her eyes. She had to have a bandage over her eyes for a few days, and couldn't see. Rather than go out with my friends I stayed by her side, and "watched" Wizard of Oz together. She held my hand and we sung all the songs.
I sometimes like to think in some way I was a hero for her during those times. Sometimes I wish I would have been better to her later on in her teenage years, but I got too caught up in my own clique of friends.
I felt like I could have been a better big brother, but those moments stick out to me.
Now-a-days she is more like the big sister to me. haha! She looks after me, because for a while, I suffered through my own bouts with depression.
Sometimes it is the little things that make us "heroes". One day I hope to be a hero again for the special people in my life, especially a special woman, but most of all, a hero to myself because we cannot sell our souls for happiness, we can only be unwaveringly true to who we are.

There is no question that you are indeed a hero! Thanks for sharing that with us.
@BeeryNice I agree, I just cried.
@SleeplessEleotriada honestly, rereading it had me tearing up too. It seems like yesterday and yet another lifetime ago. It makes me feel proud but also terrible. Proud because I have a sister like her, but terrible because I wish I could be the strong brother for her now rather than the shy, mild, gentle person that I have become. My sis believes in me as I believed in her, but it difficult to cope with the idea that most will never understand a man like me. I am a protector, but I am also afraid I will hurt others. A "hero" who doesn't want to risk hurting the ones he loves is no good because then he fails to act when the time calls for it, and then suffers due to the conflict within himself. In the end, even the "hero" must risk being the "villain" in another person's story, and sometimes he may cross that line even in a loved one's story.
much <3 to you and your sister. I understand because no one is perfect, you can always choose to be a hero at anytime no matter what.
And now I think you are overthinking it and you are much too critical of yourself. You are who you are and you can only do your best in every situation no matter what you are faced with. I think you know who you really are and if I were you I wouldn’t worry about being a better person. Just what little you have told us about yourself proves that you are the best already!
Saved my dog. Long story short, my dog (=Giant Schnauzer) at that point was ~14 years old and managed to fall asleep and slip down between bed and wall. Essentially she suffocated herself that way and must have been like that for a good hour or two at that point. Vomitted all over the bed and barely breathing.
And it was so tight I couldn't just get her out, so I had to lift the entire bed sideways with one hand and pull her out with the other. Hulk-Mode activated.
She ended up having a fever for a few days afterwards but fully recovered and lived on for 3 more years. Best dog ever.
Depends, what do you consider heroic?
I don't think I ever did something heroic. Sure I saved some animals while all the other people walked past them like it was nothing. I stayed with a little kid who lost it's parent in a shop. But I don't think that's heroic. It's not like I ever did something that changed one (or more) person's life for the better.
There are people who I'd consider way more heroic than the things I've done.
I wouldn't say its heroic but a good deed.
I was waiting for the bus to go home and saw this Father on his phone with his four children.
He had his back turned away from them not paying attention to youngest one who looked about five.
He was running around and went out into the road playing.
I saw this double decker bus coming towards him , so without thinking ran after and picked the child up out the road.
I saved a shark that a fisherman had dumped on the beach. It was too heavy to lift so I dragged it by the tail to the surf and then sort of swooshed it around in the water to clean the sand from its gills and watched it swim off.
I also regularly talk to the homeless people around me and ask what they need. A bought a homeless man a t-bone steak and bread rolls recently.

I don't want to say heroic but I adopted my wife's sister's daughter who lived in the hood and raised her to be a math prodigy. . I'm a math teacher. I started her on math early and daily. Before 4th grade she could add, subtract, multiply, and divide mixed fractions with positive and negative integers and different denominators. By 5th grade she could solve system of linear equations word problems from an algebra 2 textbook. She is now 14 and completely finished with high school math. She starts college in January.
Kid went awol for 3 days then made a suicide note on Facebook post about how he was going to kill himself so I went into the city found him walked around talking with him for 2 hours as he explained why he wanted to do it until the buddy I had with me could get a good enough location on us so the police could find us and then he went to the hospital got help and last i heard he was doing well. It was pure luck but I'm still happy he's alive.
As a wildland firefighter I saved an old woman life. She refused to evacuate her home without her I caught her cat and put her and her cat in her car and escorted them out of the area which was totally engulfed less than five minutes later. Somewhere someone’s grandmother was around a lot longer for them to enjoy.
