Is it true that women find 80% of men unattractive?

Question

I mean, for me it's quite true, actually it's worse. During school and college I barely found any guys attractive. In my current class there are only 3 guys that i find hot out of 25. 
The thing us that some of the not so attractive ones become more attractive as you know them, but still, a lot of them aren't.
But I am the type of person that needs to know someone before i can decide if i even like them physically.

80% of all males? That's probably true, because a really high percentage of the male population is either a child or way too old for me (and not all men age well).
But 80% of guys of the right age range? Absolutely not. I'd say around 50% is at least a "yeah why not". Then another pretty large percentage would be "meh, not really for me", and a very small percentage, around 2%, would be "damn he's ugly".
It's true that's there's only a very small percentage of men that I look at and think "wow, that's a handsome guy" and immediately want to have sex with, because I only get that with guys that I see more regularly, maybe have talked to, and that I would classify as a 'crush'. I have never seen someone in the street once and had that level of attraction to them.

Woman don't date men for their looks - they date men for their personalities - this is why only 20% of men are able to attract woman based on their looks alone. Woman can attract men with their looks pretty easily but maintaining that relationship when the beauty fades is something they cannot do without intelligence and virtue and a hard work ethic.

That's it. Women do not instantly find a guy attractive by his looks. I feel like those studies are based on showing pictures of a guy and asked are they attractive which is bad way to measure because men's way to seduce a woman is not to look pretty, like women's primary way is. Like you said "some of the not so attractive ones become more attractive as you know them". Same if a guy looks hot, he gets a lot of attention at first, but the girls can get turned off easily if he's insecure or shows other red flags.

Sounds like you may be demisexual, which is categorized as someone who needs to feel an emotional connection to feel attracted to someone. I am fairly demisexual myself. She can be the most beautiful woman in the world, but if we don't have a connection it's a no-go for me. It's not unusual at all, it just means you value connection over purely vanity. 🙂

If I’m being totally honest, I feel like people are just generally not that physically attractive these days. We collectively don’t look our best because of our lifestyles, at least in the western world, and certainly in America where I live. I could spend the day detailing why, but in the interest of time, I’ll just chalk it up to a culture where we eat for satisfaction rather than for nutrition like we’re supposed to, and people want easy instant gratification rather than hard-earned results over time. To be fair, the society we live in requires us to work way too much to get by and most of us struggle to make the money we need in just 40 hours, so our time is limited, and some people just get overwhelmed and discouraged from taking more time out of their lives for personal maintenance. It also costs too much to buy healthy foods vs unhealthy foods. There’s a lot working against us. That said, don’t allow those to be built-in excuses!

But not to stray too far off the point, not everyone is born with the face of a model, but there are things we can do to improve ourselves. I get literally 30 minutes a day to workout, but I make it my business to get there, in the face of the most incredibly challenging circumstances of my life right now, so don’t make excuses for yourself! That’s not to pat myself on the back, but just to illustrate that people with a lot less insane lives can do it if they really want to, most just don’t. So our substandard physical attractiveness IS ultimately on us, to some degree anyway. Extra weight is unflattering on most people, and most people are carrying extra weight.

We can get into a whole other rabbit hole too, of societal standards, and how things like social media, or just media in general alter our preferences and standards, but that takes more time than I have at the moment, haha.

Bottom line: some things we can’t change and need to work with; other things are very much within our control, it just requires personal discipline.

I don't fancy very many men. I'm 27 nearly 28. Anyways I've dated a few men and from different races what I've learned is men are pretty similar on a basic level. Especially when it comes to the requirements of their woman. Individually though they have their own little quirks. What you have to figure out is if those quirks suit you.
I personally although I want children and I say I want a family, I am not able to get comfortable with that. So unfortunately I don't find men attractive anymore. It's like a switch went off in my head and told me no. The radar is off. I see attractive men but it's like looking at pretty clothes you can't afford to buy, you look but no touching or trying on. That's a choice. I'm sure when I'm ready that will change.

I think most individuals (regardless of sex) only find 20% of the opposite sex sufficiently attractive to mate with for life. The reason many claim this is more common with females than males is because "sufficient for mating with for life" is often the only criteria by which females assess male attractiveness.

On the other hand, males have separate criteria for mating with for life, and for casual sex. So, *in addition* to the 20% that they find attractive enough to *either* mate with for life *or* have casual sex with , they find 40% attractive enough to *only* have casual sex with.

I don't know about that. I mean, what percentage of women have to find a guy attractive for him to qualify to be in that 20%? I'd say 0% of men are attractive to 100% of women and at least 90% of men are attractive to at least one woman. Plus, as you said, the more you get to know a guy the more he could become attractive. So the whole 80% thing is biased by the guys you don't know. I tend to have the opposite experience with women though. They usually become less attractive the more I get to know them.

Most are just average to me and don’t really have any eye-catching features. Outside of that though there’s probably more guys I find attractive than I do unattractive.

I feel similarly to you about women. I don't tend to find many attractive, but personality can help a lot. Most girls can't impress me with their looks alone. It boggles my mind why guys are so "thirsty." Don't get me wrong though, there are some gorgeous women, most just don't have the traits I find attractive.

Given the escalating rates of obesity in the US and the law of statistics, I'd say it is generally accurate that a large portion of the population is going to be unattractive (and continuing to grow as obesity rates go up).

You have to be honest to yourself though - are you trying to score a guy out of your league.

Someone who'm she perceives as successful, or high in status is generally found more desirable because of nesting-instinct...
From an evolutionary perspective- Men that were good hunters, or men with high social status were more likely to be a benefit, increasing the chances of successfully having progeny and surviving.
The rest are weeded out over time.

They look for money providers personality more as they get older. A dude can be hott as fuck but dumb and broke and it's unattractive to them.

Not so for men we are very visual base that's y u see hott super models with 70 year old men and not other way around
