They are a step closer to reaching Homo Superior than the rest of us.

Environment. Traits for lighter coloration survived better in colder climates, just like darker complexions did better in warmer ones. Just like bigger dog traits did better in the cold. Via natural selection, over time certain traits would tend to disappear. Here's an easy example:
