Computer programming skills.
but that's useful!
@anon1903 Not the skills with I have. I have solid, old-school programming skills. These days, companies want add-on skills (frameworks), where anybody can cut and paste a program together. No skill required.
Don't mean to offend your old school programming skills, but doesn't it actually require a surprising degree of understanding to stitch together other people's code?
@turd_of_warning Yes it does. I was being semi-sarcastic. There is one thing which I can't stand: it is other people's code, especially if it is not commented. I just love to invent my own stuff.
Can relate. Never learned to use other people's code, would always write it from the ground up. It allows you to tailor stuff, but too slow compared to people who throw stuff together out of other people's code.
@turd_of_warning Exactly! It's like the proverbial box of chocolates: you never know what you'll get. Throw in a manager who will force you to find code on the internet, test it and use it. How do you know if the stuff is good, or you are just wasting precious time?
Then there is the issue of being forced to use someone else's modules. Oh, no you can't fix the bug in there. You need to get the original programmer to fix it. Throw in some inter-company politics, and you have fun and games.
I started to program in 1997: Assembler for microcontrollers. No frameworks, no nonsense. Just tell the machine what it needs to do. Today, I'm in Ruby. Also, a lone wolf, no frameworks and OPP (other people's problems).
Sorry, I went off on a tangent here.
No lol enjoyed the pent-up frustration :D
Assembly? Wow, respect! Remember playing games written in assembly on a graphing calculator back in the day.
