Statistically it's around average in north America, but in a lot of demographics it would be on the edge of short. I certainly know a bunch of guys that height, and they'd all be considered on the short side among people I know IRL. But in other demographics they'd be average at least.
From what I can see in the u. s., for those of Mexican descent or Asian descent, average for males is under 5'7", while for non-Hispanic whites, average is between 5'9 and 5'10. I believe there's a bit of a wealth affect too, with wealthier people being taller on average (though there's big range of course). I'd guess average male in my social circles is around 5'11"

If a guy's under 6ft tall, he'll be belittled, berated and emasculated for it, as somehow being 'short', 'not tall enough', and thus 'not good enough'. So yes, 5'9" is 'short for a guy'. Is it average? Yes, it is. But we're GUYS- being average, or even above average, is NEVER good enough when you're a guy. You girls'll never understand that.
Still the national average in America. Might be an inch or two taller in the taller Euro countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Swedes. Been that height since the 20th century. It was 5'8" in the Civil War. People might THINK it's short because of the Hollywood-centric tall heroes, movie-star hires. Big stars are usually 5'11" to 6'4". Men who are 6'2" are in the top 5% of height. 5'9.2" is the 50% percentile.
In the US, the average male height as of September 2019 is 5'9' and therefore this guy fits the perfect average size.
Anything shorter would be considered short and on the opposite, it would be tall. However, I would personally only say that an adult guy of 5'3' short and anything between 5'4'' and 6'2'' average.

i'd say for the average American that is a mix of a bunch of ethnicities, that might be a tiny bit underaverage. but it depends. hispanics are usually short, most black men are tall, and etc.
In the US:

And across the planet:
https://heightpedia.com/average-height-of-men-worldwide/Depends where you live.
If you live in South America it’s tall
If you live in the states it’s about average
if you live in Europe it’s somewhat short but not so shot5'7"-5'9" is average for a male. 5'10" is when you start getting to a height most men do not reach but there are still a decent amount that do. 5'11" and up is rare
It's a bit below average which is not average. However it's really fine. Average is 6 feet I believe or 6'1
I consider that to be tall. I knew a guy that height and I used to consider him moderately good looking partially because of it
If 5"4 is 163cm as someone said then id guess 5"9 os average or above? Anyway how do you know that? Did you check statistics, you know "average" isn't up for discussion right? Its an empirical answer.
5'7 is average but if ur 5'9 and the guy is 6'3 or something then yea their going to think is short
My husband is 5'9" and he is tall for me bc i am 5'3".
Not short. Statistically average. Literally average. Lol
5'10 is considered average, so that's one inch less on his penis. this is the girls mentality
I come from short people so that would be tall in my family. I'm 5'1" now so I would prefer a man at least my height but really not essential. There are so many nice men of short stature so I'm good.
Could be considered average in some areas. In others it's short.
I would say 5"9" is a good height for a Male and Average.
Taiwan 171.4 cm (5 ft 7 1/2 in)
China 172.1 cm (5 ft 8 in)
U. S. 175.9 cm (5 ft 9 1/2 in)
Thailand 170.3 cm (5 ft 7 in)Yeah. I’m 5’8 and definitely consider myself short in most crowds
That's my exact height😂 I'm in the 47th percentile, so just barely under the middle.
It isn't tall. I wouldn't call the dude short though.
Depends on where you live.
I chose "yes" for "it's average"
