Are men replaceable?

One would not think so, if at the basic biological level if nothing else. No men no sperm. No sperm no babies. No babies no people and the game stops there.

It is the supreme arrogance of the age that the culture - at least as manifest in the poll results posted here to date - lives according to the ethic that Disraeli attributed to one of his opponents. "A self-made man who worships his creator," or in this case perhaps a self-made woman who worships her creator."

Here is the fun part, though, leaving aside the evolutionary basics, the evidence of science and sociology is that men are not only not replaceable, but they are essential to a stable and viable social order. This having been demonstrated historically,

Exhibit A: Prior to the Great Society programs in the 1960s, divorce and illegitimacy rates in the African-American community were at or below that of the national average. This despite the impact of Jim Crow and other forms of legal discrimination.

Then came the social engineering of the Great Society. It was assumed that children did not need fathers but only their mothers. This also making the price of the war on poverty somewhat cheaper as aid could be reduced to families where there was a man in the home to help supplement family income. Therefore, benefits were reduced or eliminated for poor families where a man was present in the home.

The effect was to reduce the economic need for men. Divorce rates skyrocketed, out-of-wedlock births soared. Crime rose and poverty spiked. Ooops.

Turns out that men are essential. Where mom provides empathy and nurturing, dad offers protection and rules and tend to be less indulgent of bad behaviors. Absent men, children - especially boys - tend to do less well academically, tend to be more likely to commit crime, young girls are more likely to become pregnant out of wedlock.

All other things being equal, that boys raised by fathers learn important survival skills, not least how to be better fathers. See also the book, The Boy Crisis by Warren Farrell, PhD. Girls develop ideas about how men and women ought relate and how men ought treat women.

So it turns out that nature and evolution knew a few things that the social engineers, policymakers, politicians and a smug self-satisfied culture - and not a few G@Gers, if this poll is to be believed - did not. So the lesson was learned and the "marriage penalty" was eliminated but too late.

Now the society is left to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. To pick up the rubble left by human hubris and ignorance and the price is being paid by orphaned and abused children, imprisoned men - who need the anchor of family to hold back their own worst instincts - and single mothers. The bill then to be picked up by everyone in the form of higher taxes, rising crime, illegitimacy and all the rest.

Nope. Men are not replaceable either as an evolutionary, economic or cultural matter. However, as was said of the French kings can be said of the contemporary culture - they forget nothing and learn nothing.

Depends. I got kinda cheated on yesterday and I must say I kinda feel for her. She has had a rough life and she's not the prettiest girl, but I thought what's inside matters. We had a connection and I was really nice, caring and honestly way more better looking. If she would meet someone even close to me, I'm sure he wouldn't like her back. Makes me happy that in the long run it will come to haunt her, not me. I'm over it already tho. So the answer is that if she would be a good and beautiful girl, she would have a chance at replacing me, but knowing her she won't.
