As a former janitor, I use my hands. The toilet handle is no dirtier than the door handles you touch on your way in and out of the restroom.
Also, I've never gotten why people are so deathly afraid of sitting on a toilet seat. That's probably one of the cleaner things in a public bathroom, unfortunately. I understand if there's piss and shit on it, but if it appears to be clean, there's very likely to be much less germs on it than the door handles. Think about it: people's butt cheeks and thighs that are mostly clothed and don't come into contact with much are what touches toilet seats, while the dirty hands that come into contact with germs that would make you sick (phones are actually one of the dirtiest things people touch) touch the door handles. Also, think of how many people don't wash their hands when they leave...
If we knew about the germs we come into contact with on a daily basis, we'd be disgusted beyond belief. Maybe it's the fact that I'm pretty desensitized to it from having to clean up after people for so many years, but I've stopped worrying as much about that kind of stuff and just wash my hands well.

Lmao your phone probably has the same amount of germs as the handle, if not more. Same for elevator buttons, public transport etc. The main reason why those handles are as unsanitary as they are is because people like you put their fucking shoe on top of it lmao. But anyways, I just use my hands seeing as I wash them afterwards anyways. We also don't have those handles in Europe, we got buttons.
I grew up playing soccer, so I used to flush with my foot just to be a badass and show off, and also because it's fun. And also because I was a bit of a bad boy and it felt wrong so it gave me a thrill.
These days I don't really flush with my foot anymore, because I've grown up and I'm "civilized" now. I do, however, take a piece of toilet paper and flush with that.
The main reason I don't flush with my foot anymore is because I'm thinking about the other people who will have to flush after me and I don't want them to get my shoe germs. And this is not only courteous to others but it's also common sense. Because if they get your germs on their hands and then they touch something else, and then you come back later and touch what they touched, then you will just be getting the very germs that you were trying to avoid and much more.
by the way, your mom sounds like a fun person. My mom would never have encouraged anything like that.
This is for those who complain about the germs. Yes it is good to wash your hands after using the public restroom but the bathroom is not the only place germs are. Anything in public that you are going to touch has germs. Even your home is most likely not germ free. What you wear has germs on it. Every place of business has germs. The amou t of germs is another story all together. Most people's mobile phone has more germs on it thsn a public toilet or urinal.

I use my foot if it looks extremely dirty. Somewhere nice then I'll use my hand
If you break the handle on the toilet it could cause problems. Using your foot is actually not good. You are contaminating the handle with the bottom of your shoe which is far dirtier. Plus washing your hands afterwards with soap and water is sufficient in battling germs per CDC.

is the best thing to do , so wipe down the handle before you flush
the toilet. I try not to use the public restrooms if i don't have to… I can’t actually remember the last time I used one that didn’t flush itself. But yeah, if needed ill use my foot, and use a paper towel to open the door.
Most public toilets now have a automatic flush. However if they don't I use my foot to flush as well. I also always carry hand sanitizer to clean the seat and don't ever directly sit on the seat.
I use my foot. Ever since a friend of mine got sick from sitting down in public restrooms, I don’t sit down either.
I use my hands. I'd never really heard of using my foot before, I probably won't do that in the future though.
Considering I’m about to walk out of the stall and go to the sink and wash my hands anyway, I just use my hand.
I mean... You'll wash your hands after you flush anyway, unless I'm totally missing something or it's somehow very diffrent in the US
I use my hands, mostly left hand and after than I ensure that I wash my hands 2 times with a branded hand wash.
I just use my hand because I'm going to wash it soon anyway and I wash my hands everytime I use the bathroom :)
Trusted Foot sorry for those whobuse their hands but common knowledge public toilets are Foot Flushers...
I put toilet paper on my hand and flush it with the make shift glove, I would use my foot but I'm pretty sure I'll end up kicking off the handle one of these days
Use your hands and then wash them afterwards. Use your foot? Weird...
There is a reason when public toilets are also equipped with hand wash basins... no need to be paranoid.
You'll need to wash your hands anyway. You could also carry some hand sanitizer with you.
tbh... i uh... prefer the home kind... at least i know it stays clean :/
I just shit in the bushes outside the restroom. No germs there.
I use paper towel to flush a public restroom toilet's because I won't use my bare hand to touch the flush handle.
I use my foot to flush the urinals in the men’s bathroom. But I don’t anymore because I’ve come across automatic flushes.
