I took it as a fight in a relationship where the girl is more dominant so is hitting the dude.

It does need to be handled differently depending on who is the abuser. But, I don't see calling the victim names and allowing the abuse to continue, as has been suggested by some, as being a realistic solution.

I had a flashback to the day I saw a girl punching the crap out of her boyfriend at the local park.
Everyone who was there just watched as he desperately tried to block, begging her to stop.
I ran up, punched her in the arm and told her that if she wants to hit someone then she should hit someone who will hit back.
She then tried to punch me, so I grabbed her fist and punched her in the teeth.
She ran away crying and I spent the rest of my time at the park comforting the guy she had been attacking.
Just curios to see how many people would just stand there and do nothing vs how many would stand up and defend someone at their own risk.
