The world's largest wasp has been spotted in Washington State and obviously they're horrible looking. Do those disgusting pests deserve to even exist? Would you be in favor of their extinction?- They kill bees, which are useful for honey protection - They attack and kill people in Japan - All they do is destroy and invade... useless creatures
Here's the problem, this is mostly media hype. The only cases of this insect found were dead ones and there were only two specimens. They likely arrived on a cargo ship and died on board due to a lack of nutrition. Not only that but they aren't called "murder hornets". The first time they were referred to by that name was a week and a half ago by the news media. Their name is the Giant Japanese hornet. They are about 2 inches long and because of their size they contain large amounts of venom. However, they are unlikely to attack let alone kill an adult human. But that doesn't mean you would wanna be stung by one. Just ask Coyote Peterson.
If they do manage to spread to the US they would be classified as an invasive species and would need to be eradicated.

I have red hornets at my home. Simple don't mess with them they don't mess with you.
Now this type of hornets invade someone property once they are in. They want you out. They don't care if is your property. So why should we care? I mean they want to invade everyone property at all cost and they don't pay taxes lol. So what is their purpose? What benefits do they bring? At least bees spread pollen and make honey.
So if this murder hornets killing bees then why not help the bees by killing this murders?
It is definitely an invasive species and needs to be eradicated just like all the other ones that weren't and now have a strong foothold against us getting rid of them.
If they are an invasive species kill them. I killed a nest with European hornets in my garden last month even if those hornets are protected by the law here. I don't need several hundred 4cm big mofo wasps in my garden while summer time. This would happen if I allowed the nest to grow further.
This is actually a good question. If you ask people why we should conserve any species you often only get. two answers. It might be beneficial to humans or its loss may be detrimental to humans. Once you eliminate these possibilities then sadly people often don't care what happens
They are necessary where they evolved since they function as a natural form of population control.
However, from what I've learned, they feed the thorax of murdered bees to their young. Since our bees have no defense against them I would assume their population would explode here.
I agree with an above poster talking about the bees being planted. They have existed in Japan for how many years and never made it here until now. It seems suspicious alongside all the fingerpointing regarding the source of COVID.
Humans have done and will carry on to do more damage than these ever could. So if the logic is too kill them off cause they do damage. Well so do we so time for us to die too.

Like humans are any better as they do the same thing to other humans. Honeybees are dying from pesticides and loss of habitat with more land being used for housing and roads and less for crops that need pollinating. What you really have to worry about is the Zanti's.
evolution doesn't care what "deserves" to exist. As far as insects go, wasps are like warriors. And warriors tend to do well throughout the food chain. Besides, humans have killed off far more honey-bees than Asian wasps; do WE deserve to be wiped out then?
The Japanese Giant Hornet will probably be here to stay. Just like the carp and white people to this land. In the 20 years of driving across North American, I have notice the insect biomass decreasing. My metric is windshield splatters and grill kill.
Yes. They filled an ecological niche in their home habitat. The reason they pose so much problem is that they have been introduced in other parts of the world where they become invasive due to a lack of natural predators.
Deserve? Lol. They aren't human! You act like these creatures behave the way they do for laughs. Study them before you make a snap judgement. And I mean actually study. Watch a documentary not random social media posts

It doesn't take away my hatred and disgust towards them. They are pests to me.
In their natural habitat they are not damaging at all, its when they get out that's dangerous, bees in Asia can handle the Asian hornets, they agro the scouts and they never get to relay the location of the beehive, but our normal bees are not ready to deal with them because they never even seen them
We need to protect our bees but we should try and run those bastards back to Japan if possible but definitely any that aren't from here and are a threat to one of the most important creatures here have got to go period. Without bees we die
Hornets eat other invasive species, without them populations of spiders for example would very high. So they do play a roll it is just unfortunate that they also kill bees
In their native habitat, yes. They serve a role in the ecosystem just like pretty, peaceful animals. But they should be killed when they invade other areas like the US.
They exist so that they can survive, I've never heard of them until now, some they are indifferent to me. Kill them you wish but another species alike will likely rise.

Yes in their natural habitat. They are part of an ecosystem that nature put forth with checks and balances in place. As an invasive species they should be if its at all possible as there are no checks and balances.
Every organism on this planet serves a purpose in its natural habitat. It is only when transported to other areas by humans the the problems start. So here in America we should do everything we can to eliminate them and keep them from returning.

Great question. I would expect every creature has some link in the ecosystem. But I think biosciences is so good we can calculate how many should die to protect other species like bees. They do it in Florida all the time with snakes and old people.
It’d have barely no effect at all on humans. Basically nobody is ever harmed from them unless they get swarmed (and they are generally not extremely aggressive to swarm random people) and get an allergic reaction, which is hardly the fault of the hornet.
Point is, even if things hurt humans, humans have to respect that many animals are important to their ecosystem. We don’t go around shooting every hippo, which by the way are far more dangerous, because it’d he extremely disruptive to the system.

Bees are essential for producing honey meanwhile hornets don't produce anything. Hornets aren't giving us something useful. They just attack, invade and kill bee hives... all that just to kill the larvae.
