Hurricanes are the main natural disaster where I live. They cause wind damage to structures that aren’t engineered to withstand their force. They cause storm surge near coastal areas so it’s always important to evaluate FEMA flood maps and storm surge zones before purchasing property. They bring a massive deluge of rainfall so it’s important to engineer in appropriate storm water management to avoid issues in coastal flood plains and drain canals prior to the storm’s arrival. They spin off tornadoes randomly so structural engineering to account for that is also important. They knock out electric, water, and sewer infrastructure due to uprooted and falling trees so you have to be ready for that with stockpiled supplies… In general though if you’ve prepared appropriately the flooding isn’t much of an issue for most people. With appropriate draining and foundations on raised mounds of uniform sand people tend to stay high and dry. There isn’t a lot of change in elevation here. Our topography is relatively stable, so if you do what you are suppose to, you don’t tend to get flooded. If you venture too close to the ocean though, it will come up and crush everything you own and swallow you into the sea. Neighborhoods do end up with flood streets and stuff like that, but people all sit on their own little islands on their raised pads nice and dry. Sometimes after hurricanes people drive boats around in the streets rather than their cars.

What a coincidence. There was a flood in my city yesterday but I am living in a mountain area far away from city center so it didn't affected me

Personally no I haven't, although back in January our town was extremely flooded and was closed down for several days, all very frightening indeed.
