Why are people with bipolar disorders unpredictable?

The moods of a bipolar are unpredictable one minute they are happy the next they are angry little things tick them off why? Does therapy help? Does medication? How does the world look through a bipolar persons eyes?

I don't know how Bipolar Disorder works, but I knew a girl with it and it was actually pretty heartbreaking to watch, especially since there was nothing anyone could do to help her. She did take meds for awhile, but began refusing them (and had a controlling boyfriend who talked her out of them as well). I'm not sure that she ever received therapy, and I can't say for sure whether the meds helped stabilize her moods or not, because she was pretty much the same the entire time I knew her, and was on and off of them, so I'm not sure if she ever regularly took them, or which times she was and wasn't taking them.

Her moods seemed to always be either on one end of the spectrum or another, but never anywhere in between. She was either elated, deeply depressed, or infuriated, it seemed like. Never just content, a little down, or a little peeved. It didn't take much to set her off, either, and you never knew what was going to upset her. It was really sad, and it was also really hard to be around her. When she began surrounding herself with dangerous people and became upset that I began distancing myself because I didn't feel safe around them, she cut me off and I haven't heard from her since, but I sincerely hope she is doing okay.

I'm bipolar, but I've been getting better. I'm too poor for therapy, but I found a menod that works for me. I smoke weed to calm my nerves and get back to a happy state of mind! This isn't for everyone, but it's what helps me stay out of the extreme lows.
