As expected, the implications of me picking up that phone or the rifle made them do an attitude about face, that was not as certain as me picking up the pot of coffee. They asked for a raincheck on the coffee, and I forget too wish them a pleasant morning as the left.

One time, I was driving my souped up '72 El Camino towards my house. A cop drove past going the opposite direction and I saw him hook a U-turn to come after me. I gave that car the gun turned on to a street to my house and then another turn onto my street. I raced to the end of the street, parked in front of my house and ran inside before the cop came down the street. I saw him pull up behind my car and get out. He looked frustrated, but didn't come up to the house.
When I was in my very early 20s, I worked as a janitor in charge of cleaning the floors of a school district administration complex. The head janitor and I got off at 11:00pm.
The complex was built around a square parking lot surrounded by buildings.
One night the head janitor were leaving at 11:00. We went out a side door that opened to the parking lot. Keep in mind that I had really long, rock star, hair and was wearing Levis and a concert T-shirt.
I slammed the door's panic and flung it open. Unbenounced to us, the parking lot was full of cop cars and at least 6 cops spun around with their guns pointed at me when I slammed the panic bar and opened the door. I just froze and kept my hands in plain sight.
They were apparently responding to an alarm in the audio visual building. I looked just like the kind of criminal they would expect to find.
Fortunately, the old janitor was right behind me and explained that we worked there.
But it was no fun having a half a dozen nervous cops pointing guns at me.
Yes, this one time my neighbour was found dead in the basement. They asked for ID, I was sleepy and they had tons of questions, I couldn’t answer half of them.

I didn’t even know which neighbour they were talking about. They only said the flat he was from but there were 2 guys and one girl living in there. And the dudes looked very alike so brown hair and tall-ish wasn’t enough to tell me which one they were referring to. So I figured I shouldn’t lie for the sake of giving a better answer just so I don’t look guilty. The next morning they knocked on the door again asking about my whereabouts around the time they believe he died (yes, it took them 5 to 7 hours to examine the body and figure out when he died). At this point I thought I might be a suspect. I was low key freaked out at this point but soon enough they found out he overdosed.

It might have been an excuse to search the area rather than get a warrant. Another good trick (besides fabricating probable cause) that I know of being used is wildlife and fisheries. Basically a cop has a buddy in wildlife and fisheries, has someone they suspect strongly for a few crimes, but lack the evidence for the DA to issue a warrant or get them into court. Call wildlife and fisheries to suspect them of poaching, now they can go in to search the entire house, vehicles, everything without a warrant... and the police just follow behind the agent. Imagine the joy of being on parole or probation where you just can't say no to a random search or knock on the door at any time!
Having someone in your backyard was to make sure you wouldn't run, which, yeah, been there, done that, you see a bunch of police cars out front and think "well, fuck it" run out the back door, and they're on your ass before you hit the tree-line.
So, easier things to do when those things happen. Step outside to the police locking your house behind you so they can't see in, and any business they have with you does not extend inside, walk towards the curb while you talk so they have no reason to be on your property, and if they linger, say as much. I mean, I like cops, have friends who are cops, but it doesn't mean we're always working towards the same goals.
No, I never have. Although some time ago, whilst my friends from Ukraine were visiting and staying with me, the police showed up at my day in my absence.
I was admitted in the hospital at the time due to a bike accident I experienced ony way back home from work. I was held up in hospital the whole night and my friends got worried because they had no idea where I was. And the police showing up aty door hours past my time of being home got th terrified.
I came back from hospital to have a bit of sleep before my appointment to look at my dental damage. And when my friends so the injuries on my face they were shocked. They were asking what happened? Did you speak to the police? And I told them I had no reason to speak to the police. I just had an accident. They then told me the police were at the door.
I assume though that the police were there perhaps because of a neighbour who had been reported numerous times for antisocial behaviour because the police said they were just checking whether they were alright. My friends just answered they were but I was not yet home from work so they didn't know whether I was. And thy asked the police has anything happened to me? The police answered they don't know. They took details but nothing happened after that.

I was in front of my computer around midnight - a very common time for me to be in front of my computer- when the doorbell rang. When I answered, it was one of our police doing their nightly drive-by. He saw our garage door was open and reminded me to close it. WTF? I thought I remembered closing it already, but OK, I closed it. Then a half-hour later, I needed something from the garage- guess what? It was open again! It turned out that a tool have fallen across the door sill and kept tripping the safety switch, sending it right back up. Moved to tool, closed it, and it stayed down! We really do have a good police department.
I have been in the same situation, one day the police came beating on the door and out of reaction I got out of bed, grabbed a weapon and went to the door to see the police trying not to laugh because whenever I opened the door I had a huge steak knife in one hand and rubbing my eyes with the other. But turns out that they were looking for a murder suspect who was seen hiding out next door. So yeah I’m not a morning person.

Had police knock on my door told me managment wanted us out of building. They pounded on alk the doors. The has everyone downstairs told us to get out of my 8 story apartment building. To find out there was a box on other side of building. a bomb threat. Police used a robot to check the box. Bomb Squad called all clear.

Sometimes their tracing devices don't work correctly. I've had a cop show up saying they had received a 911 call from my cell. The thing is my phone had been sitting on my dresser all day and I knew no one had even touched it.
