Why do guys lie to girls?

(Before I start this, I’m not generalizing and I’m aware that women lie too. I’m just speaking by experience)

So my 2 male cousins are friends with this guy that I like, and they both told me months ago that he likes me.

But comes to find out, he talks to them about girls he’s been with and sometimes they would all mention other girls right in front of me. (And they know I like him back) Whenever I ask him or my cousins about the other girls they either sugarcoat or act like they don’t know what I’m talking about.

But why bring up other girls right in front of me thinking I’m not paying attention and then cover for him so I wouldn’t know anything? I get it’s none of my business but if they don’t want me to know then they shouldn’t bring up brief things that happened with other girls. But they say he wants me. And he stares at me a lot.

The way they make it look as if he’s a guy that just sleeps around so if my cousins knew that about him, why try to get us to date? It’s unfair for me because I’m looking for a relationship and they lied saying he wants one too when he actually doesn’t.

People, regardless of gender, lie to accomplish a goal that they couldn't accomplish by telling the truth. In this case, the goal is getting you to date this boy. If they told you the truth, you wouldn't want to do it. If they tell you lies, you might give him a chance. So they lie.

Why do they want you to date him? Well, clearly they like this boy. He's their friend and they want to be good friends. Unfortunately they care more about their friendship with this boy than they do their familial ties with you. Or perhaps they just don't see the harm in it. Doesn't really matter. It is what it is.

I find it stupid cause if I had a friend who I knew sleeps around with a lot of men, my family would be off limits. If I let her get with them and they found out they would be pissed at me for allowing it *shrugs*

I read nothing in your story that implies the guy you like doesn't want a relationship.
Why are you so certain he's lying?

Basically when my cousins bring up other girls and I ask him about it he would act like he doesn’t know what I’m talking about instead of just explaining. My cousins said he wants a relationship but he says he doesn’t so one of them isn’t telling the whole truth

Id they told you the truth you would feel bad or hurt. So they protect your feelings

I’d rather be hurt from the truth than believe a lie. If guys don’t want women lying to them they need to not lie as well

As you admitted girls lie as well. So often you see examples when a girl asks how she looks and other girls sugarcoat their answers

I’m mainly talking about relationship wise. My cousins shouldn’t try to get this guy to be with me if all he wants is sex and I want a relationship. I told them what I wanted, they told me he wants the same thing but come to find out it’s not what he want

He may have lied to them as well. Regardless you will keep searching for a relationship guy, more mature

But why tho? Men be wanting to know how many guys a woman they’re interested in had been with to see if he wants to be with her. Plus why would my own family set me up like that?

Some people will do whatever it takes to get what they want, and to lie... is one of those things that are easier for people to do, even if they know it is usually bad.
