Why do I keep being asked where I'm from?

For almost my entire life, I keep being asked where I'm from almost on a daily basis. I'm not sure why this keeps happening, but it's getting really frustrating because of being so repetitive.

At the bottom of my post is a link of me talking. What are your opinions about the way I sound and do you feel like I have a certain accent?

You sound U. S. American to me. Although without the ''chewing gum'', and also polite and educated. It could then also be Canadian?
Some of your intonation reminds me a little of how Phillippino's speak (Am.) English, although I don't perceive your 'style' as a 'real' accent.
It could be possible that your appearance also is not ''typical'' for your area - and so people have a feeling of being disoriented with you?

It's interesting that you say that because as a teenager, I had a lot of Phillippino friends, due to living in Asia for a few years. Maybe I picked up a bit of their style of speaking.

A lovely voice you have & from time to time people ask me where I’m from & I usually tell them I’m from ten minutes up the road or from outer space as well. As for your voice I’m not detecting an accent but I am detecting an on & off dialect & if I could narrow it down I would say Georgia.

Hmmm are you from Alabama or somewhere around those states? Lol. You do seemed to have an accent, but it’s not quite clear to me to distinct.. I think if we knew which state you’re from, we can confirmed if your accent seemed to differ from where you are located.


Your experience does reminds me of a handsome guy I met a couple months ago. He had an accent as well. But not the same kind from my state. So I asked if he’s from Texas or something. He told me that he grew up in my state but it’s so common for people to asked him the same question if he was born elsewhere because of the way he talks and his accent 😅 I actually learned to find it attractive and amusing in its own way as it’s unique. I would say don’t mind it, appreciate and own your uniqueness :)

Hmmm, having lived in the south for 25 years I want to say you're from somewhere in the south. You pronounce a couple of words a little different, but nothing that would make me take pause. I swear people seem so emboldened about saying inappropriate things these days.

I sounds blended. Some vowel emphasis would suggest Southern. Maybe Louisiana where there is a hybrid of accents per the French Micmac. It is a little distinct but many voices are. I think I could recognize most people I know by their voice. Also, some people just pick up accents better than others per nature over nurture. Have you lived in many areas?

Yes for all my life, I’ve moved around a lot. I was in a military family.

I love your voice. It does sound like a bit of an accent but I can't tell what kind. But I didn't hear you talk about being in the place you grew up not knowing your accent either. And that sucks to hear. But you do have a great voice.

I listened to it and sounds like a nice voice. Your voice sounds Southeast US but I don't detect anything unusual about it. I can't account for why people always ask you that.

I know a lady who is from Germany and she has a non-US accent, and people ask her where she is from. But that is more understandable.

Thanks so much! And I'd never even thought about the "sounding younger" part. I keep hearing the same thing in the comments, that nobody can place the accent. I find that very interesting. I guess it must be just a Flower accent and not connected to an actual place lol.
