Why do people always ask me about my ethnicity?

I get a lot of people lately asking where I’m from. And it’s kinda bothering me because i don’t feel like i look different. Like a girl asked me if i from here (where i live) and i said yeah but i realize now she was talking about my ethnicity. Is it because i look weird?

I ask a lot of people around my new home where they're from. It's small talk, particularly if they have an accent that doesn't seem native to the region.

Do you have an accent? I had a small-town accent growing up, them moved to a different town with no accent, and came out with this mixed dialect. I can't hear it, it's not obvious like a Southern twang or anything like that, bit people always think I have some foreign accent. I don't get it, but that's a possibility. Could be where you live. America is suoer diverse, so I can't imagine anyone would ask that here (based on looks alone)

No. People often have preconceived notions about people of a certain ethnicity and might also be looking for common ground with you.
