Why do people always mistake me for different ethnicity?

I am from Georgia, my father looks as if his distant relative could be East Asian, my mother looks slavic.

My brother looks Italian and I have been mistaken to be

Spanish,

French,

Greek,

Turkish,

Half Japanese,

Half Russian Half Chinese

It has been numerous times I got stopped by people on streets and asked

“Are you a foreigner or are you from Xinjiang? half Chinese half Russian?”

Yesterday I was told Xinjiang is famous for beautiful people and most Chinese celebrities are from there, and I guess I dhould take it as a compliment, they told me I can also try “acting”.

But I am just confused how can I be mistaken for so many so different nationalities?

Georgia is in the intersectional area between east and west. Ancient migrations of peoples went through that general area. The African bushman seem to be closest to the ancestral eve and have features of a lot of different peoples. So I'd guess that's a factor others are seeing and tying to you racial types they know or imagine.

I've googled Georgian faces and maybe I can see an occasional hint of Asian features in the eyes and definitely do seen slav face features

Yep, my mom also says that and I think that’s because of my dad, he used to look a bit like east Asian in youth,

I do look even more Asian than him though. I like to be the exotic one in my family, but I feel super curious of my ancestry

You probably should do a DNA test on one of the bigger sites to find out a lot more about your ancestry. It took me 3 years but in doing this I was able to find my biological father. Sadly he was dead but at least knowing who he had been was comforting and informative.

If an east Asian girl dies her hair something other than black they don't look so Asian. I met one with blonde hair and I was maybe she is Chinese but maybe she isn't.

It is the jet black hair that makes think Asian.

In China, people often cannot tell European or West Asian ethnicities apart. So they resort to wild guessing or pick the geographically closest ethnicities that look superficially similar.

Here in Europe, people typically cannot even tell a Japanese from a Han Chinese which I suppose must be shocking to the people of these ethnicities. So it goes both ways.

I have been thought I am Spanish by a Spanish person himself,

And a German one thought I was either French ot Greek,

Chinese ones assume I am half Japanese, half white or half Xinjiang half Russian

Another difficulty can be that many people do not have Georgia on their mental map at all, or they think it's where Coca Cola is from (Atlanta, Georgia).

It could be that with so much cross breeding throughout the centuries you really do remind people of others they have seen from other areas. Or they have such limited experience outside of their own sphere that they really do not have clue. I mean, if you came here to California and I introduced you as being from Georgia, half the people would wonder how close to Atlanta you lived, and that after you spoke.

My ex is from Columbia, but she’s mistaken for southeast Asian and Egyptian and Arabic. Native American.. because of her long curly black hair I’ve heard wow she could be Cleopatra all over again.

Your genetic line has a lot of different influences blended into it. That's part of what makes the Russian Steppe cultures so interesting looking.

I am not from Russia, I am from a transcontinental country, which is at the border or Eastern Europe, Western Asia and Middle East, I guess that’s why I have all these weird genes

But it feels really strange to be different from your family, yes I do resemble my dad, but I look more Asian than he does.

Yeah, that's the area people are talking about when they say "the Russian Steppe." It's a massive area that includes everything from Mongolia to Hungary. All that trade, warfare, and cultural mixing has created some amazing genetics.

Georgia is not Russian stepp though 😝 It’s a mountainous country, we are stuck between two big mountain ranges, Greater Caucasus Mountains and Lesser Caucasus Mountains. There are mountains everywhere

People in general are just terrible at guessing anyone's ethnicity. something you'll just have to accept. I just call myself a white guy instead of the mix of ethnicities that i am lol.
