Can you roll your tongue when pronouncing certain words?

When i try to roll my tongue to say certain things in Spanish, its the funniest crap ever. A year or so ago, an old friend on here taught me how to roll my R’s over a discord convo. It was hilarious. It took me about 10 mins to catch on. Once i was able to do it, everything i said from there on out had a roll sound 🤣 And mind you this was while speaking English. But see, when i learn things, they dont stick around for long. I just learn it in the moment then forget about it. So im back to not being able to roll my R’s and so on. My mom rolls like a beast tho. Luck of the Irish i guess

lol... well, I was born into Spanish so it's quite natural to me, but not just that, I grew up fascinated by the romance languages, so I can speak most them all, French, Italian and all 12? versions of Spanish?

and what I mean by "I can speak French and Italian" is that I know how they speak their languages and the subtle but actually substantial differences between the languages... the R's are an example... but the S, C and Z sounds are a better example, among all the different romance languages and versions of Spanish... so I can naturally adapt and switch between them... so yes, I can speak like Spaniards do, Like Argentinians, Colombians, Mexicans... even Cubans and Puerto Ricans, and I can also speak Portuguese like Brazilians do.

so... to the question, can I roll my R's lmao... yes

we could probably step 100 yards afar from each other, and you could still hear me rolling R's

yes, I am from South Texas (the so called Tex-Mex region) right at the border... part of my extended family are from the USA, another part of the family have made it into Mexico... but yes, born and raised at the border... I got some from both sides

Yeah, gotta be able to do it to make gun sounds to sing along with Griselda songs lmao. Griselda HANDS-DOWN has the best imitation of gun noises (see around 4:04), not just the “B’DDD-DDD-DDD-DDD-DAT” you need to roll your tongue for, but also showcasing variety, with “BOOM-BOOM-BOOMs” and “DOOK-DOOK-DOOK-DOOK-DOOK-DOOK-DOOKs.” I look forward to many more years of these sounds, and perhaps the sounds of guns of different styles or calibers that I may not even know about yet🙏

Ironically i was having a conversation with my lady because I have no problem rolling my Rs in Spanish. I don’t know how I’m doing it because I did as a joke to someone who tried to teach me 🤣.

Yes. In german we also have some sort of tongue-rolling - albeit different than in Spanish of course. Also we have a lot of the sssssssnake sound so that helps with Spanish pronunciation.

They do! In secondary school my English teacher made me aware that I also tended to roll the rrrrrr (we first learned French, than English in those times). In Belgium there are about 6 million people who speak Dutch, 5 million speak French. So we need to know some French 😀

I might be in between A and B. Took Spanish in high school and uni and I could get a bit more of the tongue roll than most of my classmates, but nowhere near as good as a native Spanish speaker.

I think I put a Japanese twist to it since -- in Japanese -- we kind of have a sound between "R" and "L". So I could kind of roll my "Rs" a bit quite quickly. But I can't do the trill so well.

I took Spanish in 2nd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, 11th grade, freshman year of college and senior year of college. All forced academics lol. Its not even a language i still care to learn 🤣 And i still dont know wtf Dora the explorer be saying. I only learned it to pass the courses. I never use it outside of that

I ended up taking out of some laziness because I sampled an introductory French course and compared it to an introductory Spanish course and I found French much more difficult. That said, I now sorta wish I studied French instead since I'm into French cuisine and would love to be able to at least pronounce my favorite dishes properly. :-D I have a hard time even remembering their names since the way things are spelled in French is so counter-intuitive to me compared to other languages like Spanish.

I think being a native English speaker makes it difficult. I took Spanish in high school and again in college and still can’t. I think it’s the hardest part of trying to speak Spanish.
