Would you feel scared about this bird biting you?

I love my bird I always pet him/her and say good morning but I’ve never allowed him/her on my shoulder before because I’m very scared of that and I’m very scared that she’ll bite me. Yesterday while I was cooking, she flew on my shoulder and I got so scared that I started screaming and I ran into the chair and into her cage trying to get her off of me 🤣 she didn’t get hurt though she’s fine. The funny part was that when I was screaming she was screaming on my shoulder too saying “MAMAAA” yesterday was absolute chaos

It’s kind of always chaotic here with her and the dog in order for her to be outside I have to lock myself with the dog because he’s always trying to eat her and he’s always crying because he hears her outside 🤦‍♂️

I have not been bitten by a bird till now and I never wish to. I actually like it when a sparrow, pigeon or any bird with small beak sits on my shoulder but I don't think I have the courage of standing still with a parrot on my shoulder. Something like this happened to me too. As an animal lover I have pretty nice connections with the birds or the dogs and cats those who stay near my home. So they aren't afraid of me when I come close to them and they let me touch them. Once I was feeding few parrots and one (the one who wasn't there at that time) suddenly decided to take a peek on his friends by sitting on my shoulders!! I seriously got freaked out but as much as I know about animal behavior they will bite you if you have fear of them being near so I just tried to lure him by the seeds keeping my cool and he came off my shoulders and started eating with his mates. That was a close!

Beautiful bird. How did she come into your life?
My friend has a Blue Macaw that would scream “MOM’s HOME!!” When she arrived home 2 am each weeknight. She had to move a couple times before starting her own business and now has better hours.. lol

She is 23 years old and my family found her and saved her from a pitbull. Since it’s illegal to travel with them in the Dominican Republic my mom’s brother’s have stayed with her for years but now we’re staying with her we’ve had her for a while now

Probably. I don't know a whole lot about interacting with birds. I'm much more familiar with dogs; I can read their body language and generally understand their "spoken" language, too. Birds are more of a mystery to me, and while it may be perfectly safe (or it may not; my point is that I don't KNOW), I'm reluctant to put anything dangerous near my face. I meet it and get to know it, that might change.

I've been bitten by a bird once. It hurt like hell. I wouldn't want it near my face because that pain would be ungodly and also potentially cause a lot of damage. I love birds to bits but i'd likely never own one or if I did it would be something smaller that would cause less damage. I always found Parakeets very attractive little birds with their patterns.

She poops a lot like every second and is a bit stubborn at times but she’s still a polite bird she bows down her head so that I could pet her. She’s bitten my dad before but not me

they can be just as loyal as dogs. People dont know that about them. There was a guy who broke into a home and the old lady was home. The robber sadly killed both the owner and the parrot but not before the bird tore tons of chunks of flesh from the guys neck and scalp. They were able to take the DNA tissue samples and track down that guy. I think he ended up getting the death penalty too if memory serves right.

Today she was standing on the door of her cage and i was petting her she put her beak close to me while I was petting her and opened her mouth a bit but I’m not sure if she was trying to bite me or play with me? I think it’s different when a bird tries to attack you?

a lot of times they might be trying to use their mouth to leverage to get on your hand or forearm. Not always to harm. Their mouth is their only hand really unless you count their feet.

I have my own one of these little guys. He was abused in his first home, then my grandma who took him in died so now he's with us. He's definitely not very trusting of humans, but he's a sweetie otherwise. My mom has to do anything that requires opening the cage for me though, because I'm terrified he'll bite me. We usually keep him distracted by giving him his favorite foods lol.

Yes he’s very ill mannered with her lol but she bites him so it’s fine he deserves it. And everytime that she’s close he licks his lips like crazy i have to keep him enclosed in a room when she’s out and he doesn’t stop barking

Parrots can do serious damage. The bite out of fear. I have been bitten badly. But I always treat them with respect and try not to put myself is a situation where the bird will bite. It seen that the birds knows you and likes you. Birds are very good at sensing if a person is dangerous or not. If I was living with that bird every day, I would not fear her. I would talk to her. If a bird does not like you, it will not fly to you and land on you.

start out with letting the bird sit on your arm while you are wearing a coat. You will get used to him and discover he will not bite you.
