You do realise that the only reason why they patented it to go over is because it's more profitable that way, right?

So before they released the patent on the "correct" way to place your roll of tissue, they did studies and found that you use (or waste, rather) 30% more tissue when it is over than under. Many times when we try to break off a length of tissue squares, it fails to break off and just rolls over excess tissue. That's what they mean by using over 30% more tissue than we actually need.

Now, if you prefer the mullet, the extra 30% issue is rare because the breaking point is nearest to the wall - meaning there is enough resistance to hold the roll in place for an easy break, and you avoid the excess rollover.

So if you chose the beard, y'all won by conforming to a societal "norm", but the real winners are the t-roll manufacturers who make off with 30% extra profits because of your gullible ass.

I genuinely do not want to start an argument, but there is no patent on the subject. No one can patent the direction you choose to hang your toilet paper in your own home. And futhermore, while there is a lot of competing data out there about which uses more, the question of which is safer is well settled. The flap in front carries a much lower risk of transmitting harmful bacteria. People brush the wall when trying to get it from the back, then the next person picks up what the first person brushed onto the wall, etc. Unless you wash your hands after you're done but before wiping... but that would be, um, unusual.

I’m a monster all the way & however I throw it on is the way it is staying. On the other side of things the last time my sister came to visit she told me my toilet paper was on the holder wrong & I started laughing. As we walked to my guest bathroom she told me the toilet paper was OVER & after that I said let’s go take a look at the toilet paper in my master bathroom & it was UNDER & that really got her going.

That reminds me I have to install another toilet paper holder in my guest bathroom so I have two, one OVER & one UNDER, I keep forgetting.

Because I have a cat-proofed toilet paper dispenser box rather than a plain holder, and it's easier to pull out when it's the wrong way lol.

I can't have a regular toilet roll holder, my cat will steal all of the paper and eat it because he has pica.

We get the extra long rolls and it literally doesn't roll when you have it under. The amount of times someone's put it under and I've had a period disaster and have had to wipe my blood off the wall because I couldn't get any tp without touching my bloody fingers on the wall 🙂

Over, keep it away from the wall. More importantly, when you pull on an under, the roll spins, giving you much more paper than you wanted. When you pull on a over, because of the physics of motion and momentum, the roll doesn't spin as much and you get the amount if paper you wanted.

The mullet actually makes people use less paper. They researched it in hotels. So I mount it like that. Another trick to use less paper is to squash the roll so it spins less smoothly.
