Will cops really come after me for downloading 4 games?

So i want to just download and play 4 games to play offline on my PC just for me, I read on the internet that where i live ( U. S) we can get sued for thousands PER game, And jail time, Is this true? Why is this so harsh? s I also watch movies on a site called "Hurawatch" i dont DOWNLOAD or share anything, I just watch my movie and close the tab, I understand if im selling thousands of copys of a movie or game, THAT SHOULD be punished, But what im doing is victimless and harms nobody, I would never buy the game or movie in the first place. If i was rich i would happily buy the stuff i, But im a 15 year old that is poor as shit that lives with a single mother that lives meal to meal, I can't fork over 20$ for every movie i want to watch

It's basically pirating a movie

But, the issue isn't that a pirated movie gets sold... the issue for movie companies is that it's free

But, if you aren't forced to give the side where you watch or download the movie, your personal data, there is a low to none chance that they try anything
Simple out of the reason, 4 movies are nothing, you do not copy or share them...

And I have ~1200 movies (best of 1986-today) on my hdd... not a single dime was spend...

Well, each type got an extern hdd... movies, games, blueprints and po... books, of course books 😆 (who doesn't have a TB full with Pooks, probably republicans...)

The bay provides anything a pirate needs over 2 decades now...

Sorry, I thought you talk about movies, but the same rules apply to games... just make sure the internet is turned off when you start them... steam/origin/ubisoft could theoretical notice than you use a pirated game, which sometimes results in a banned account, where then even the games you bought aren't working amymore

People download copyrighted material every time they use a streaming service or a game distribution services... You won't have issues with downloading, you will have issues with distribution rights. People that got sued early on in the copy right battle were people that torrented data because they not only downloaded, but also uploaded at the same time to other servers. They didn't have the right to sell or give it away without licencing agreements.

Yes, it's true. Piracy is a crime. Game developers don't sell you the game, but a license to play the game. You are playing the game without the license to do so. Sometimes licenses are transferable, like with physical games. In that event, you can lend or even give the game to others for free or for profit (rentals and resales), but while they have the license to play, you lose your license to play it.

How about you get a job and actually pay for the stuff you want instead of stealing it. If you keep an eye out, you can get used games from Ebay for dirt cheap - just make sure it doesn't require a Steam code because if the game is used then the code is invalid and won't work.
