If the apocalypse were to happen and it's every man for himself, where would be the best place to take over and control while armed?

It's an apocalyptic, "every man for himself" situation. What's the best place to takeover and control?

You and whatever small group of friends, family, and allies are already armed (unless you're an anti-gun pus sy; in that case, you can just get shot and robbed).

An unoccupied Hypermarket (K-Mart, Walmart, Target, etc).

A Hospital but it already has many people inside.

The only Gun Store in the city and the only one there is the accommodating owner.

The abandoned Power Plant running on auto emergency power.

The Military Base, but there's a 50% chance they threaten to kill you instead of letting you join.

The Mansion of the richest person in town, and it's just he/she there alone.

Leave the cities. The utility of cities is efficient transport of good and people to each other for trade. If it's every man for himself, I wouldn't want to rely on trade. I'd leave the cities and try my best around the farms or on a boat, basically find something wilderness-adjacent and try to eventually learn to live in the wild. This is especially great in the UK; all the dangerous predators have been extinct for a few centuries.

I may not even be competent enough to survive alone, but I figure it probably gives you a better chance in the long term than fighting over the evaporating remains of civilisation between several million other people that don't know any other way to live and will be forced to prey on each other. Even if supply chains don't completely fail, many people would probably die.

As far out as possible. The best place to be is some obscure out of the way place. Preferably in forested hills. Where you'll be harder to notice.

All those places listed are prime targets for a lot of trouble. The best place is one you likely won't have to defend.

Remote country side, can still grow our own food, milk cows, have chickens with fresh eggs and setup towers with sharp shooters for any trespassers.

This way when the stores run out of food and supplies, you don't die... I should say, it should be done by a river with at least fresh water, or a lake. Then you won't run out of water and can farm properly. Want to do it far enough away that nobody would know where you at, be like finding a needle in a haystack.

My local highschool would be a good place to fortify, they have bows and arrows (which are often reusable) in a storage shed near it and they're are plenty of shops nearby that could be raided.

Admittedly holding something that size would be easier with help.
