Apparently the GOP are trying to convince us we can’t.

Solution is simple. If you have any criminal record or mental illness you should be banned from even touching a gun. Should any of these people have a gun on them, used or, during any crime then minimum 10 year sentence for them and who gave them the gun.
The OP’s view is naive and at odds with observable reality.
Weapons laws only ever disarm decent citizens and leave them defenceless against tyrannical governments and the criminal underclass.
Criminals always get weapons. Here in Australia, where most people surrendered their weapons to the New World Order in 1996, Lebanese drug gangs in Sydney and Melbourne are better armed than the police.
The real purpose of the Democrats desire to disarm the population is to prevent effective resistance to the Orwellian hell state about which Democrats fantasise being imposed upon the US population.
Even that will not work, because the millions of veterans in the US will arm their resistance to tyranny by killing the servants of tyranny and taking the weapons from the bodies.
That is what they and I (former Light Horse) were trained to do.
Our preferred source of resupply was always the lifeless bodies of the enemy.
That Democratic voters are too simple minded to understand the real purpose of gun laws is one of the arguments against universal franchise. At least half the population are too stupid to be trusted with a vote.
Think of gun laws this way. You are woken during the night. You open your bedroom door and see two huge prison gym body black men four seconds away from the bedroom door of your middle school daughter.
You can a. call the police (15 minutes away, perhaps more because they were defunded), or b. use your Colt 1911 to put one to the centre of mass of each man, then one into each head. . . to be sure.
Which course of action will protect your child?
Perhaps Democrats are not smart enough to work that out.
Define criminal record? Define mental illness?
Criminal record=you've committed a crime. Mental illness= your nuts.
We already do this in America. People with suicidal/homicidal idealizations can’t possess firearms, federal back ground checks are run on every gun purchase.. those with restraining orders, previous criminal history of a violent nature, domestic violence perpetrators, and those with records for breaking federal firearms laws are barred from gun purchase.
Murder has been outlawed since Americas founding…. well I guess that common sense law didn’t work.
@purplepoppy hmmm, why didn’t someone think of that. You think we’d have law for background checks. Wait we do, yet criminals still get guns. It’s like laws and rules aren’t something they worry about. You can pass ANY law and penalties you wish, true criminals won’t care.
@purplepoppy. So anyone with a speeding ticket and any transexual, got it.
@KrakenAttackin hahahahaa lol I get what she means but yeah something like this exist in the US already like what @Exterminatore said but the biggest issue is like you said how far do we extend that. Cause yes someone who thinks theirs the opposite gender then they're born is clearly a mental illness but we're told to forget that and allow them to be who they wanna be AND they can buy guns if they want, although we all know their mentally ill.
We can, it is just no one wants to. Guns are more important to them than lives.

There are more registered guns than there are people in the US. The focus on unregistered weapons involves 3d printers and silly things like that, completely ignoring that you can make pretty much every weapon from the 1970s and earlier without one simply with a lathe, drill press, and possibly CNC router, maybe a hydraulic press and molds if you're going for AK type weapons or HK knock-offs.
Guns and Americans are like peanut butter and jelly. Though the original intention was to fight tyranny, taxes and what not, now we just like guns though our tax rate at minimum is like 30% compared to a tax on tea that started a war lol
Anyway, if you want to curb weapons, restrict nitric acid for ammo that modern weapons rely on rather than the weapons. If every American owns 10 guns, but bullets are 20 dollars a piece, why worry about guns?
No we can’t. The cats out of the bag. We have roughly 500,000,000 firearms, billions of magazines and trillions of rounds of ammunition. You can build a firearm with a couple basic tools in your garage. I’ve used jigs, 3D printers and even built a shotgun from Home Depot parts. It’s not as easy as buying one from the store, but it’s by no means difficult. Firearms are extremely simple tools.
We need to focus on the plethora of societal problems instead of just hyper-fixating on the extraordinary divisive subject of firearms. Literally nothing changes when we argue about guns bans and restrictions. Half the time, the ban or restriction proposed wouldn’t have had any effect on the preceding incident.
There is no reason why we don’t have armed guards at schools. I had a “school resource officer” which was literally a local police officer at my High School back in 2008 and we never had a problem, despite having one of the highest concentration of firearms per capita on the planet.

you can go to prison for that lol
@ChefPapiChulo, Nope, it’s always been federally legal to build your own firearms in America provided:
A. You are not a felon or otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm.
B. You do you not give, sell or transfer the firearm to anyone else and it’s strictly for your possession and use.
ig it depends where you live.
@ChefPapiChulo you actually think going to prison works as a deterrent for someone who really wants to commit crime. That’s like calling for more “gun free zones.” Schools have been “gun free zones” for years, how’s that working for you?
Ok, i used to think like this in the past but to put it simply... its like drugs, yeah they are illegal but people still get them. Most forget about black market trading. So getting rid of guns is honesty stupid. Best thing would be a psych testing to see if someone is stable enough for a gun. But there are many regulations already in place to make it extremely difficult to buy a gun... now at gun expos, is is very less regulated but people still have to sign paperwork to buy a gun. The biggest problem is the lack of knowledge about guns, how they work, & the walls/red-tape people have to go through to get the guns. Politicians should have to take a gun education course 2 times a year to understand how guns work, the regulations in place.. etc. so the bills for regulation can be properly thought out and written. Open free public education classes should be held on a monthly bases to inform the public so this hysteria can stop.
Republicans have been yelling "they are coming for our guns!!" In loonasy for over 70 years, when all that has been done is regulation.
Meanwhile the Democrats and "news" side has been spewing uneducated dribble about guns to the public for years.
All this has caused is fear and uneducated hysteria. If you are scared of guns, learn about them, if you want regulation done, learn what is in place.
As a blacksmith, I can make a gun from industrial waste. They're called "luties" or "luty" guns. All you really need is a little bit of chemistry knowledge to make black powder from household chemicals and have a few tools. It won't be a "good" gun, but they can fire full auto.
Taking guns from law abiding citizens is asinine, but also I was abused in school. As were all school shooters I can think of. I hated my school, they laughed me out of the councilors office when I told them about the abuse my ex stepdad was doing to us at home including starvation, domestic violence, and animal abuse, and he was a crackhead to boot. I never got help from school, was suicidal with anger problems for years.
Sure, take away guns. But spoons don't make you fat and that won't fix the real problem: our children are suffering mentally, physically, emotionally in these schools. Highschool broke me. Middleschool set it up, and due to traumatic reasons I don't remember much of elementary school.
I say we arm and train select school staff like the janitors and such, and provide at least 2 resource police officers per school. Put alarm buttons in each classroom, keep entry doors locked. After all that's done, HELP OUR MENTALLY LASCERATED CHILDREN SO THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE SHOOING SCHOOLS UP. Every school shooter I've ever heard of was a former student at the school they shot up. Doesn't that stand out? From columbine to the one that happened a couple days ago. Every. One.
Sure, if someone registers and votes as a Democrat, then they can't own guns. As all Democrats are very evil people thus evil doers, all they want to do is take away rights.
Best part is, there is already lists of who to deny a right to.
Except it is a right, which means we shouldn't take away rights.
Focus on the society problems and not the guns, that is the real solution here. Best chance of changing anything is to go that direction and stop trying to go after guns, in fact remove gun laws and make it easier to get them and focus on society problems and there will be less shootings.
@OddBeMe
Incel? 🤣
My celibacy is a choice.
Since my 30s women who would not have spoken to me when they were 20 have been throwing it in my face.
I have been hurt too deeply and one time too many to go there again.
Also, it is too legally dangerous here in Australia to have any type of relationship with a woman.
Simply dating, or being in a friend with benefits relationship, puts a female in a position that enables her to use the Family Court to steal the man’s house.
A false domestic violence allegation can also be used to steal a man’s house.
Plus, take a look at what women in what would be called my age range look like. (shivers with horror)
Obesity and sun damage are standard. The choice is between peri-menopausal insanity, or post-menopause vaginal atrophy.
@cth96190 funny I see this on incel chat rooms daily. I’m most interested, clinically. I only rarely laugh at y’all’s expense.
But this is a growing problem, like in Japan. I think all this texting and social media makes it less likely to talk to women and befriend.
Do you have a female friends?
The proof is in the pudding. We have had so many mass shootings to the point it’s a regular thing, if we could control it through simply regulating weapons the facts would show a downward frequency and success rate of mass shootings. We don’t.
Lean into the problem don’t restrict guns loosen the restriction make the public more knowledgeable about guns and how to use one. If we make owning a weapon less scary and more like owning a car infusing it into the culture. I bet you after a couple of years you will see a massive change. Matter of fact I guarantee it.
There is due process. And that include due process for mentally ill people. You can't take away their rights just because they act strange. You can't even take away their rights if they are full blown mentally ill, which is rarely the case with these shootings. You need proof. Otherwise you violate their right to due process.
You end up with mentally ill people out on the street for the same reason you have criminals out of the street. You can't do anything about it without proof and due process. It's the price we have to pay for our freedom. Freedom is never free. If people want a police state, kangaroo courts, extrajudicial prosecution, religious police and stuff like that, they are in the wrong place and wrong time in history.
No, we can’t because we don’t have any way of telling who is going to be evil and who is not going to evil. A lot of these mass shooters. Do not have a criminal history. They have no reason to be denied a gun. Red flag laws are important background checks are important metal health issue and address them is important. But they’re no way of predicting the future. If someone wants to buy a gun legally and had committed no crime and can pass a background checks they can have a gun. What they do with that gun is no one’s fault but their own. If you do have a criminal history off the streets because obviously, you know the criminals on the streets so you are, of course, going to go to an underground arm dealer. There is no way of preventing evil people from getting guns
Most of these shooters are crazy and everyone around them knows it. There was a guy who lived in the town next to me that went to work one day with a rifle and shot ut the place and then turned the gun on himself. I talked with some of the local cops and nobody was surprised. People , (local cops, FBI, mental health workers, teachers, parents, friends and acquaintances) have to be told that they have the responsibility to come forward and identify these people before they decide to shoot up a school.
Most of these shooters were identified by somebody as being dangerous, yet nobody did anything.
They're right, even if you banned almost guns and destroyed every gun in America, and the means to make any form of them, America's borders are so damn porous it won't be hard to smuggle them. Or honestly make makeshift guns out of pipe and blackpowder.
Even discounting that, would you rather seeing 10 kids shot to death, or 10 kids being stabbed or beaten to death?
Evil will always find a way.
Even when guns didn't exist, murder and crime still ran amok.
Shinzo Abe, prime minister of Japan, was assassinated by a home made gun. In a country where possessing one is simply not allowed. Not to mention it's the home of the Yakuza.
Gun ownership is illegal in Mexico, but the drug cartels still have them in droves. Some of those were even given to them by the ATF. "Operation Fast and Furious". Look it up, I'm not joking.
The "war on guns" will have the same result as the "war on drugs". Or J. Edgar Hoover's "war on crime".
We can control their access to guns, but we do not, so the point is moot unless we try to. Right now the majority of gun laws are either 1) not enforced or 2) so loosely enforced that they're worth less than the paper they were written on. It's not impossible to believe we would solve most, if not all, of our gun problems with proper enforcement of the laws we have. We see countries with severe penalties for guns and while I'm not saying there's less crime per capita there than there is here, there are A LOT fewer gun deaths.
Most other countries in the world can, but seems impossible for America somehow...
*Of course, there is always a way to get a firearm, but firearms for dummies should be America's nickname (and I went really soft, using the word 'dummies')...
My opinion was clearly sarcastic.
Obviously it's not impossible, but Americans just don't want to deal with it.
*by the way., I'm not American.
You can only have equal gun control, ie it's to late to restrict access after they become evil. So everyone should follow the same rules, ie be old enough, have gun training, have a gun cabinet for storing a gun in a secure way, have a hunting license. Ie a reason to own a gun. Police and military service would also do.
No. The point of a criminal is that THE LAW MEANS NOTHING TO THEM. How is this so damn hard for liberals to understand? Criminals only know how to learn lessons the hard way. They rarely stop their conduct of their own free will. It usually takes getting arrested or losing their life to stop them.
if someone doesn't care about the law anyway, then making gun ownership for them illegal is pointless. criminals will be criminals. gun laws will disproportionally effect law abiding citizens. however by restricting gun ownership in general very severely, you also reduce the chance of criminals being able to get a gun in the first place.
Then why do so many people die every year from overdoses? Now fentanyl is the new drug problem. The point is so many calls from one side of the isle to “ban guns” or “more gun control” when no matter what laws don’t deter criminals. A locked door doesn’t stop a thief, it just keeps your honest neighbors from being tempted to steal. If laws worked why are all these shootings happening at “gun free zones” why not at gun ranges where there are more guns per person than anywhere else. It’s cause the gun is only a tool of the underlying problem.
exactly. that's basically the same level of idiotic argument that the NRA uses xD
Access to illegal guns is easiest measured in their Black market price.
In some countries a illegal gun is 5 times more expensive than the legal one so someone intending to go on a killing spree needs to get a job and save some money.
Also evidently some will change their mind by that time and rather just go on a nice holiday or buy a car.
Hmmm maybe but I don’t know. As of right now there are so many guns in America that even if we made it illegal or have regulations I think it would be easy to get illegally. The countries that have less shooting…. Did they ever really have a lot of guns to begin with?
If parents, gfriends, doctors, psychologists, etc. could do their job by reporting people with psychological problems we could cut down on the mass shootings. Probably never eliminate them all, but surely eliminate many of them. Prohibiting guns won’t help at all. Anyone that wants a gun WILL get a gun, legal or not.
Do you realize that 140 people die PER DAY on our nations highways? If the left really cared about saving lives (they don't), they would be rallying for traffic safety, heart disease researching, and suicide prevention. But, the left doesn't care, so they don't.
Anti guns is an agenda to take larger and deeper control of the people they seem to be resistive to their lefts agenda.
