Is it surprising animals can also mourn when they lose their babies?

These are two examples of the mother grieving the death of its baby cub:
1) A mother dolphin carrying its dead baby for days

2) The top big cat and king of the jungle; a lioness mourning her cub's death

Not surprising at all. See it all the time with other animals too. They also sometimes will raise another species as their own because of the mothering instinct. It's beautiful and some animals are way more emotional than we give them credit for.

No it's not surprising. Animals are living beings that can breath and feel pain too.

It's a known thing that various mammals mourn their dead offspring. Elephants, monkeys, and apparently dolphins and lions.
