Does anyone else, NOT like dogs?

Question

I think dogs are very cute, when I see a dog in public, trust me I get all happy and I’m like “aww a puppy!”
however, personality wise, not a fan.
i just think they’re annoying. They jump all over you when you walk in the house, they sit there and stare at you while you’re eating whimpering and shit, they lick your face with their nasty dog breath and drop slobbery nasty toys on your lap. They never shut up, and bark all the time.
And obviously it also depends on how they’re trained but I have NEVER met a dog who doesn’t do most or all of the things I’ve mentioned.
I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I just don’t like em 🥴
im allergic to dogs anyways so when I’m at someone’s house it’s a good excuse to take them out the room, but I’m also allergic to cats. But idc I will cuddle up with a kitty no matter how many allergies I get from it

Lol I get it. Dogs are a lot of work and you have to understand them, but well trained dogs respect boundaries and won't do a lot of that stuff.

My old dog would just make eye contact with you, touch you with his paw, sometimes rest his head on your thigh if you were too focused to get your attention to be let outside to use the bathroom. He'd scratch the back door to be let back in. Barking was last resort because he understood he wasn't supposed to be barking too much

I'd want him barking only as an alarm system for the house or if he got super excited it was accepted. I'd feed my dog before I ate so him staring at me while eating was never an issue. He was fed. If I was eating steak he might look at that tho. I'd give him steak sometimes

But he wouldn't jump on you at the door. He would come to greet you, but he'd respect that boundary. I'd mostly reach down to pet him or come down to his level to love on him a bit.

The toy thing. Yea that happened 😅 only a few times in his whole life tho. I made it known I didn't like it so he stopped lol. He whipped me with his rubber tug o war toy once lmao. Shit stung my leg lol. Said wtf

Most of unwanted dog behavior comes down to them not getting their emotional needs met or not being corrected while trying to appease you in a way you don't want. a lot of what they do is for you. It's on you to guide them. a lot of people just simply shouldn't own a dog because they don't have the time to really raise it properly and give it what it needs.

When I finally do get a dog again I'm taking 2 weeks off work just to be with the dog and get it setup for life. Potty training, obedience training, play time, get accustomed to the house, let it get comfortable in it's dog house and so on. Try to get it around people and other dogs to socialize him. It's a lot but all of it will handle what you're talking about personality wise.

They're like humans in a lot of ways. Personally I view them as a friend more than a child. I'm just the leader of the pack.

I find it hard to believe you think dogs are cute if you hate their personality since that is what makes them as well. Personality depends on breed, the owner and training. For you to assume the majority of dogs aren't trained well is a reach, too. Just because YOU don't like how dogs act regardless of training doesn't mean they are poorly trained. It is a responsibility that is delayed gratification at the end of the day that comes with a loyal pet that will be by your side and even protect you because of the bond created.

Would you rather have a dog that licks you and is happy to see you and be by your side, or would you rather have an out of control dog that is trying to rip your face off and bullies everyone around you because it was trained poorly?

Cats are fine. No one said cats suck. I tolerate them since I grew up with them too, but I would prefer a dog over a cat. The benefits of cats are like you said, less needy and more independent which is admirable and that clearly fits your preferences. I would say be mindful of your friend's dogs. You're allergic, understandable, but if the dog is hypoallergenic or if they have a cat, you come off as a hypocrite by using allergy excuses and you snuggle the cat instead.

If you're getting a dog, read these delusional myths 'promoted' by dog nutters BEFORE wasting your time and money :
1. Dogs love you UNCONDITIONALLY (nothing is unconditional) it will always go behind FOOD and stimulation!
2. Dogs are loyal (many cases when dogs ignored their primary caretaker if they were away for few days and instead they followed the new caretaker).
3. Owning dogs is good for your mental health
(HELL NO! You only get 10 times more burden in your life! Dogs shit and pee everywhere, it takes months of patience to clean and teach them, they want walks 4 times a day and HALF of your life HAVE TO REVOLVE around them, then only they'll be a good pet.
They steal your food, even after eating their own. They beg shamelessly, they don't care whether you eat or not).
4. Dogs are the best thing to exist!
(Nope, they're selfish and act on survival instincts. Whoever starts offering them more food and entertainment, they'll forget you and run behind them).

(What about $$$$$$ bill when it eats random crap and gets sick? They're always on the hunt to eat whatever, even if you give them 2 heavy bowls of breakfast, lunch and dinner).

7. You are your dog's world

What is wrong with the people who don’t like dogs? Dogs are great, they sleep with you, they slobber on you, you give them your food and it makes you happy, you take them on walks, dress em up, and love them to oblivion. It’s not supposed to benefit you in any way except for the company and emotional support dogs can give by doing absolutely nothing, which is black magic tbh.

What do you think about cats? I have reluctantly come to like these asshole cats. They remind me of one of my dearest ex-girlfriends who I loved and encompass both the greatest things I loved about her and the things I disliked most (not hate -- how I am supposed to hate something I loved?).

But she was as fickle as a cat. Her love is devoid of any sense of deep commitment -- you can lose her loyalty over the course of a single day. It's like she can't remember all the nice things you did. She just hates you now that you stopped her from scratching your walls and tearing down your curtains and saying, "No, bad! Don't do that." I know exactly how you feel. I like dogs but I absolutely hate the obsession some people (usually women) have over their dogs.

Dogs were put on this earth to give humans companionship. I can understand how that brings joy into people’s lives. Nothing wrong with that. If I didn’t travel so much I would consider getting one.

But in recent times some people have bizarrely taken this a step further. I see (yes sexist but it’s the truth) women post stupid comments on their dating profiles like “I choose dogs over people” and other crap. If you're a man especially and you don't like dogs there's something wrong with you. That is the first animal we've domesticated as a species and we didn't domesticate them for food. We owe a lot to the dogs they guard us they warned us they can sense things before we can and most importantly of all they're the most loyal animal to human beings will ever probably have. I have an American akita, my ex wanted him and turned out to be abusive so I kept bubba. He's a good boy, only barks when people are at the door to scare them off and that's it. Other than he's quieter than a mouse. Doesn't drool unless I am eating meat, but he's an American akita so he's got flappier lips than a regular akita.
I don't want any other dogs apart from him.

I am kind of with you. I have this weird fantasy vision of a future life and it always includes a dog but for some reason in reality I can't wrap my head around accepting all of the work involved in training one properly and caring for it after. My family has a terrible track record with training dogs for some reason.

I love all animals except snakes and a cats. Snakes because I have a good trauma as once a snake was about to bite me and for cats because they killed my rabbits and pigeons but I don't hate them much as due to one cat others don't get bad. It's just I can't trust them. And for dogs... I LOVE THEM! They are seriously sooo cute and playful. Like their cuteness can melt you. I loved dogs and I will keep loving them.

I love playing with them but I don’t want to own one because they vomit when they are Ill and the smell makes me nauseous. I’ve always been sensitive to smell and I get nauseous when I throw out the compost every week. I share your opinion but I don't go around getting annoyed. Clearly silent dog races exist. But even those have other dog characteristics. So yeah I don't get people who rate them above cats. I glad my neighbors don't have any.

A dog's mouth us actually cleaner and rhan a human's. As for barking that depends on the dog. Bigger dogs are less likely to bark. Dogs watch you while you eat because they want it. As for dropping toys in your lap it's because they want to play, which is their leisure time, much like watching TV is for humans.

I LOVE DOGS! I have been a dog owner since as far back as I can remember. They are fiercely loyal and a great friend. They have made my life more enjoyable. I can't imagine what life would have been like without one.
