Do you prefer the home that you build/buy that includes a guest room?

Question

So outside of the bedrooms available for you and your spouse, roommates or kids, would you prefer an additional guest room be included?  —I personally do not want a guest room in the house because then people will be inviting themselves over to stay.  Nah. If you dont live there 24/7, i do not want you staying in my place . You can stay im a hotel. And yes, you’re responsible for the cost because there's a 99% chance that I never invited you over in the first place. I just dont do that.  Company annoys me after spending at least 2 hours together,  and well they just need to go home or elsewhere at the end of the day.  — If anyrhing ,  , I prefer guest cottages . My childhood friend had a really nice 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. In the back of their house, they had 3 guest cottages. I would prefer that. I’d use one for my office, one for my collection and in-home gym, and the third would possibly be for if guests came over. But its highly unlikely. My house is a modest 1600" single story. It's officially a three bedroom, but we converted one of them to a large office. The third bedroom is for guests. It has a trundle bed (two twins) for guests. It also serves as a (part time) room for one of our cats and we used the large closet for extra storage.
There's a guest bedroom right next to it.
Our master suit is on the other side of the house.

My sister and niece visited once and stayed there for a couple of nights. My wife also has relatives back east who have come out and stayed for two or three days. Last summer, two of her nieces (in their early 30s) stayed overnight. Before that, her brother, sister in law, and two kids (late teens) stayed for two nights.

My wife has a friend who has stayed here a few times to look after our cats when we were on vacation. One of those vacations was two weeks long.

The thing is, we live in a rural area and the closest hotels are 20 miles away. It's nice to have family stay, show them our yard, have a fun dinner together, stay up chatting before bed, and then have a nice breakfast in the morning before taking them out to show them the area and do things.
I'd feel sad for them to have to pay for a hotel and breakfast, and to have to drive to meet each other.
I don't care to have anyone to show up here and set up house, though. They can stay for a few days, max. And, honestly, we don't have overnight guests very often. It's been maybe 8 or 10 times over the past 19 years.

But our small, spare bedroom has come in really handy.

You totally need no friends or relatives staying for long on your property, I see ya point of view since some people once they visit they tend not wanna live.
But I am to buy many own house or build my own I wouod include guest houses out of the main hosuse. Since them sleeping away from the main hosuse can grant me privacy and for them too.

Tough question. I suppose a guest room is better than a guest cottage. I've had both.

We built a guest cottage because we were tired of guests overstaying in our home (10 days to 2 weeks).

When we had the guest cottage, guests would come for WEEKS or a month at a time, even buying things for the cottage and redecorating. It was filled to the brim.

Now we live in a much smaller house with no space for guests to sleep over. They have to pay for a hotel. We still have a few guests that visit for too long, but they leave at night and if they sleep past 7, they better get breakfast before they come over.

My husband and I live by the saying, "Guests are like fish. After three days they become questionable and after a week they need to be thrown out." I know it sounds mean, but it is true.

I live in the three-bedroom home: The master bedroom is mine. This is Florida. The garage is impossible to work in during the summers, so bedroom #2 is used as a sort of work/project room. I have a work bench in there along with bookcases and an oversized chair for reading. Bedroom #3 is my home office.

Although there is no guestroom, I do have a folding hotel bed which can be set up in bedroom #2, the bedroom which has direct access (a connecting door) to the guest bathroom.

Because I live relatively close to Disneyworld, I'm under pressure from moochers seeking free overnights (or more). I seldom give in.

Our house does not have a guest room but we’ve had people sleep in our fully furnished basement when they stayed with us. We had a couch that could fold over into a sofa bed and we provided blankets and pillows for them. And a few times I had college females sleep on my sofa bed during sleep overs at my house.

You must really like your privacy lol, me personally Id like one built in the house like what everyone else said for when the family visited and maybe an emergency place for the homies. As of rn I have a 4 bedroom house with a giant basement and plenty of space for a nice size family... but I live alone, no dog or cats, just fish... i have extra rooms, but quite frankly I use them almost as storage units or an extra garage

I am looking at putting a self sufficient flat in the grounds.

this would have bed, fridge, bathroom, games area.

ideally it will mean I can shift my offspring in to her own accommodation when she’s a bit older, until then I get a large games room.

it also would be handy for guests.

Christmas was a bit fun with, sister with her girlfriend, my girlfriend, my daughter n ex wife.
Boxing Day was even more hysterical with bodies all over the place.

Basically, I never bought a house with more than four bed rooms and a guest room was not a consideration. All depends on the market and availability. I am way more concerned about the bathrooms and kitchen than how many bed rooms there were.

My kids are out of the house now, so two beds is ideal for me now... second bed being a bonus room not just a guest room.

My husband being an architect, actually designed and had built our home which consists of Master bedroom/en suite, plus five further bedrooms all with en suites.

We are both very much family orientated, so have plenty of room when needed.

I want the type of guest room which we have at home n have had in previous 2 homes... its like for unknown guests who are as in unknown for rest of family but known for 1 person... like my dad's friends or co workers etc... they can come n have supper/lunch/dinner/fruits etc n have good time n leave... or same for my friends or whoever's etc... that room we have in current home has attatch bathroom too...2 sets of tables n chairs... some decorative items

An extra bedroom is always handy and all the places I'm looking for at the moment are two bedroom. I'd use it as a study/computer room or somewhere to do crafts.

My living room tends to be sofa/TV but never used. Still, if I ever had company, that would be the room used. It also acts as storage so I need the extra bedroom to actually have somewhere to exist.

I actually want a Guest Room in my next house. I have some really close Musicians , come over for collabs sometimes. So , sometimes we spend days and even weeks working together , so instead of making them stay at a hotel , I can get that to stay in the Guest room

A guest room is a must. My and my family's life does not get affected by some guests. Otherwise adjustments for pillow and such things can happen that can cause disturbance.
