There are several Ancient City that I would like to visit if we could go back in time. But without hesitation i would choose the Mythical city of Babylon.
If you could go back in time and visit one ancient city, which one would it be?
Is my safety guaranteed? Then Jerusalem 70 C. E. to witness the siege and destruction. If my safety is not guaranteed, then Jerusalem around Passover of 33 C. E.
What constitutes ancient? I would like to visit Cyrano's Paris, ca. 1650. Go see a play or an opera. Also visit Versailles which is about a day away. Say hi to Louis and Marie.

Kaifeng during the Song ca. 1000 C. E.
Granada during the Andalusian era, ca. 1100 C. E.
Or I could meet you in Babylon ca. 700 B. C. E.

But perhaps I should visit Chetro Ketl in Chaco Canyon (in present day New Mexico). Preferably on a summer solstice morning. This is the only ancient city I have visited in my life. Now of course it's a ruin. But I spent a day there with a professional archaeologist. There are things I know to look for and questions I might be able to answer. There are colonnades there that resembles Mayan architecture. Was this a Mayan embassy? What's with the simple and shoddy architecture around Casa Rinconada? Was that a sort of slaves quarters? How many people actually lived in the stone buildings? Most archaeologists believe very few to none. Most believe they lived in temporary structures outside the stone buildings. The entrances to the Great Kiva allowed priests to enter the kiva unseen by the audience. Were they pulling some kind of Siegfried and Roy magic act? But it would be best to witness the abandonment of Chaco Canyon. How did that happen so abruptly? And why? One generation they are there and thriving. The next generation they're gone! Why are the Hopi, the descendants of the Anasazi who built and occupied Chaco Canyon, forbidden to talk about their legends about the decline of Chetro Ketl? Did something bad happen? Did something go very wrong? A plague? A bad famine? What?
If you go to Palestine around 33 A. D., it would be worth it to go a few years earlier so you can attend some cool events. I mean yes, Jesus' death was significant; but he did a lot of interesting stuff when he was alive, too.
I'd like to visit Tenochtitlan. From what I read, it was a beautiful city, with great architecture. Or the seven cities of Cibola. Thise are the ones on the West hemisphere. On the eastern hemisphere, the Hanging gardens, early Egyptian cities, and Babylon.
It would be fun and interesting to visit Ancient Rome, and marvel at its architecture and engineering. I'd be careful not to change the time line though... I want to eventually get m\back to my own time.
I understand what you mean. Especially since we would probably quickly miss our modern comforts in any case that would be my case.
And obviously, as perfection is not of this world, these mythical ancient cities must have had a lot of failures, especially if we compare to our modern criteria, however I think it would be worth it.
Not likely. I'm pretty sure they practiced Human Sacrifice, like everyone else in the middle east, and you being a stranger wouldn't bode well for your lifespan.
@OfDeath almost all secular and Christian historians agree on two major histórical events: Jesus baptism by John the Baptist and his execution under Pontius Pilatus.

That's outdated information. The number of scholars who accept a historical Jesus is declining. Worse than that, the cited "authority" on that page was not only a christian apologist, but is now dead.
The jury is well and truly still out on the historicity of Christ. If you went back in time, you'd probably find he wasn't there and nobody spoke his name until after the alleged events of his death.
It is a fact that there are no secular sources on Jesus from during his lifetime. Absolutely everything about him is sourced from the gospels. Sorry, but that makes him no better than any other fictional character.
