Do Analog Films have resolution or not?

Movies from the 1930's and 40's were fairly low resolution but b the late 50's, resolution had improved substantially.

Yes but its not a sampling rate. Its dependent on the properties of the film. Like if you had two buckets of thick paint you could probably mix them in such a way that a picture was visible on the surface and may even stay that visible for days (longer if the paint dries). But if you had two buckets of dyed water no such thing could occur. The thicker the substance the sharper lines you can draw with it. I forget the name of this property but the digital equivalent is the sampling rate (or resolution).

In terms of analogue TVs they have lines. 625 for PAL but it is interleaved so one half that at a time and how frequently it goes from top to bottom. Not all lines are visible lines. In effect 576 lines for PAL

Anything will have pixels in some way. For example dots per inch in printing. Photographic emulusions have grain in that what responds to light has a physical size and can be bigger or smaller in size.

In the same way analogue TV's had phosphors coating the screen but It was the frequency of the signal that set what resolution could be seen. Effectively 520 pixels.

So yeah analogue has resolution but it is going to depend on what analogue media you are talking about. Specifically with photographic emulsion the faster it is (less light needed), the grainier it is, larger photo sensitive elements are and the less resolution. Effectively the grain size is equivalent of pixels I'd suggest.

Analog film doesn't have resolution per say like a digital video, but it does have film grain which is kinda like a resolution, expect not every grain is the same size and their placement is random. Watched a video recently on film restoration, the one person mentioned that the density of grain on film is close to 4k.
