Do you travel "by plane" or "in a plane"?

Is it "he is going to France in a plane" or is it "he is going to France by plane"? Which you choose depends on your local dialect. Other languages of course have other expressions so it'll be interesting to see which one they choose when translating into English.

To be honest, I'd just say "I flew to France".
"On a plane" is more common than "in a plane", even though it's kind of misleading...

To be honest I have done both I have traveled in a plane to 4 or 5 different states

I also had a bus that had a biplane that is a two wing open cockpit and that was a blast because he did a bunch of tricks barrel rolls stalls and when we finished I had a smile on my face from ear to ear that was one of the funnest times I've ever had

Aviation terminology is derived from naval terminology: you are traveling to France on board a plane; the same as being on board a ship.

I've only been to France by plane once, every other time was by ferry. Does that answer the question 😂

By plane? On a plane? What about a train? Or drive there using the HOV lane? No matter how we travel, it's not a pain. So long as we don't get caught in the rain. Because that is liable to drive everyone insane.

English is not my native language so i have not any local dialect. What they taught me is "by plane", although in Italian it would be used "in" (in there is also in italian).
