It's basically the same position as Operation Cyclone. Where the USA gave Osama bin Laden weapons and assistance to fight the Soviets off... then betrayed him.

That doesn't sound right. Firstly, they gave assistance to the Afghans, and secondly, how is stopping giving it after the Soviets left betraying him?
