I like my busy, but to be honest it's my father who trims the hedges etc...

I don't call cutting grass gardening. That's just general, visual maintenance.
Gardening is making a design, selecting and placing plants for the season: taking out ones that have done their job and putting in others as the season advances. It means regular fertilizing, especially for potted plants, checking for bad bugs and keeping up with keeping plants healthy.
It's a real pleasure to see a burgeoning garden, weed it regularly, work your compost pile, so you have one of the best slow fertilizers that comes from your vegetable scraps. You can take great pride in producing food for yourself, gifting family and neighbors with the excess. Makes summer more of an adventure. Nice to change it up and add new plants and flowers too! The choices are nearly endless!
@exitseven Make a second pile. I have. Means I have a seasoned pile and another that I can put fresh scraps and manure into, and simply turn my older pile and add green matter: grass and leaves, which break down quicker. I'm actually planning on doing a third pile. So by year's end, I'll have endless collections and can be ready to raise several beds... It's a dream...
I'm assuming by "garden" you mean "yard" for us Americans? I do not have a garden, but I live on 5.5 acres and the majority of it is lawn. We just moved in in October 2021 and we live in Michigan so we basically just went straight into winter and are just now starting to think about what to do with the property. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like yard work lol
Oh yeah, I don't really understand the difference as a European, and my bad English doesn't help lol.
Well, a garden requires a lot of maintenance. I advise you to put plants but no need to put a lot because its overload and in the end it does not look pretty.
Anyway my father is a gardener so as soon as he has time he comes to take care of my garden 🤣
Lol no worries! In the US we tend to refer to a garden as a specific area of our property which we have dedicated to the growing of flowers and/or produce. Whoever we bought our home from had a garden but I don't know that we will continue it. I know the UK uses the word garden to mean yard though. I'm sure the US is the weird one on this one.
I just rorotilled my garden last Sunday and it is ready for planting. I like taking care of the garden but for some reason last years garden was a big failure. Probably the worst one I ever had.
I enjoy growing things in the garden. But I feel no pleasure about an only decorative one, or ''sculpting'' it. The last thing I'd want is a lawn and flower beds :)

That’s a nice little garden. We don’t have one now, but we did at our old house. I liked taking care of it.
I am considering about it to decide my next house but seriously if I have another one that is too tired I have others reasons to push me doing it.
Yes build a garden every year. Tending it gets tedious with weeds but the fresh peas are worth it.
I don’t have a garden because I still live at home but when I do move out I would like to invest time and energy into a garden.
