I like a lot gardening, but I just have some plants on my balcony.
I grow some spices (thyme, rosemary, lavender, mint, sage), some flowers, some succulents, a ficus and 2 aloes.
I take care of them daily, I cut leaves and water them, I give them more terrain and change their vases. When I do that I feel like I’m taking care of some friends and they thank me becoming greener and smelling ☺️ it relaxes me.
Gardening is definitely very relaxing.
Ah I hope you do too!
So long as everything isn't burning up in a drought, then, yes. lol.
I not only grow plants, but I actually breed several species too.
Oh cool, how do you breed them? Do you mean collecting the seeds?
I evaluate lots of different varieties and then manually cross the ones that have traits that I need / want.
Example:
Corn #1 germinates well in cool soil and tolerates drought but is susceptible to blight.
Corn #2 is disease resistant and yields well but is sensitive to cool soil and moisture stress.
I cross them, let them mix for a few years, then plant a big patch and choose the ones that have the more ideal combination of traits.
Wow that's so cool, thanks for telling me about it!
No prob! Potatoes aren't hard to breed, so you could fiddle around and make your own variety.
Sounds like fun, maybe I will sometime. I'd also like to try grafting
I'd like to try grafting too at some point. Want to get a start of pawpaws growing.
What would you like to graft?
Apple trees, there's a really pretty crab apple I'd like to use
Hey, it's a good thing that we live in the Internet age then!
You can learn some interesting things on the internet
I agree! I learned everything that I know about plant breeding from the Internet. A wonderful resource.
I learnt how to identify wild plants from my mother and great grandmother, I really appreciate it now
Yeah, it'll keep you from eating something poisonous and show how to find medicinal uses.
Definitely!
Hey, thanks for being cool. You earned a follow from me. Take care!
Thanks, you too 😊
Thanks for MHO!
You're very welcome!

One of my dreams is to make my own off grid self sustained house and grow the majority of my food. I'd love to live more in tune with nature. My shampoo and soap would be DIY. My furniture would be DIY. I'd make my own essential oils. Pretty much everything would all be DIY.
Sounds nice, we're living off grid right now and it's nice but definitely has it's difficult sides
The pros outweigh the cons though. Everything has its difficulties in life. I'm honestly jealous 😂
That's very true, I do appreciate it. I hope your dream will come true for you!
Sure, I like gardening. . . in video games. :P
I recently planted some corn and potatoes to see how it goes. Then next time I will try other stuff, but it is difficult to decide what to grow because I am such a picky eater.
I didn't know you could do gardening in video games 😂
Cool, you can't really eat the produce though
I can sell it to get more items for my character. I wish they would make it more of an accurate simulation for the gardening though so people could learn how much sunlight, water, etc. to give specific plants, along with how close they can be planted to each other, and how long they need to grow before harvesting them.
That would be a good idea, at least it would be educational
I see, I've never played video games so I'm not really in the know with them 😅
I weed whacked my front yard yesterday (probably to the annoyance of my neighbors now I come to think about it.. (cookies might be in order) just because it felt so satisfying in the moment. Yes. I do like gardening.
Oop *instead of mowing too
I LOATHE gardening, but it isn't a jungle. The trick is to drive over everything with a Flymo. It takes flowers, weeds, grass the lot!
Good old Flymo 😅
Although I will say a jungle can look quite nice sometimes
It does? Maybe it looks nice in other people's gardens lol, but I'd be too embarrassed to let anyone see it.
I quite like it, especially if there's wildflowers. You'd be surprised at the amount of wildlife that live in the long grass
I'm terrible when it comes to knowing the difference with flowers/weeds. Apparently when I bought this house it had a hydrangea bush and a rhododendron (Thank goodness for spellcheck) I never knew and wiped them both out!
They aren't wild, rhododendron (it's true I don't think I'd be able to spell that without spellcheck😅) can actually be pretty invasive and difficult to get rid of. I'm sure you can tell which ones look nice though
You would think that, but no.. When it comes to flowers I know nothing.. Hence my driving over everything that gets in my way with the Flymo!
Well I guess that's one way to do it, I do think if you were just to sit in the grass and look you'd be surprised at the beauty and variety there is in wildness.
Hmmmm. Beauty in the wildness you say? lol. I take it you've never had a frog (might have been a toad) jump up and hit you in the face?
To be honest I haven't but I wouldn't mind, I like watching frogs and toads. Infact I was just watching a little toax yesterday in the garden.
Awww. If you've ever watched 'The Durrell's', you remind me of a female version of Gerald Durrell with regards to nature.
I haven't, I guess I'll have to watch it sometime
I think you might enjoy it.. It's set during the 2nd world war so don't let that put you off. The family decide to make a new life for themselves after the father passes away in.. Corfu? I think it was Corfu. And the story is told through the eyes of Gerald Durrell's love of Nature!
That sounds good, thanks for the recommendation!
Have you ever thought about investing in concrete?
@dustybiker2 You're kidding Db, They would go mad if I tried to concrete over the Island of Corfu.
@db To be perfectly honest, I enquired about having artificial grass and they wanted 9 grand for that, so I never even bothered with concrete.. I just looked it up and it's way cheaper.. I might just do that.. Ta.
You can get those templates to give a cobblestone look.
@dustybiker2 I'll certainly look at both options ta.
There's always the flame thrower. Just file for a permit first.. the paperwork if you don't...
I have a flamethrower lol.. Well I sort of do. It's a butane gas cylinder connected to a large metal pipe. Only it would take me a month of Sundays to do the whole garden.
So a glorified cig lighter?
Oh stoppit.. The missus is asleep in there and I just burst out laughing.. but I suppose yes..
Just blame @sirderpsalot123 I always do.
@dustybiker2 I'm going to be unfunny starting now 😐
That's my serious unfunny face by the way
Okay. •starts stopwatch•
I do actually it's very meditative. I'm not necessarily growing food, but I have a big yard I'm constantly taking care of. Love when my cherry trees blossom pink and white.
Oh cherry trees are beautiful!
Only people over the age of 50 have gardens here. Anyone younger would struggle to afford a house of their own.
That's a shame
I have always had a vegetable garden. The last two years I got hardly anything out of , my garden. Bunnies, deer, and other critters have had a field day and ate everything. I am planning to build some kind of fence around it.
Yeah. I can be outside more than ever now since I got my anxiety med last year. So I can do things I've never done before. Gardening being one of them.
I like it in theory until about July and then usually whatever I have planted I leave to fend for itself among the 90 degree 50% humidity days of Iowa..
No and I wouldn't have one and if I did, a small lawn mown by a professional once a month
Concrete be my friend 😉😁
But concrete is so ugly!
I used to like it when we didn't have a garden but now, we have a pretty big garden and don't like it anymore. It's a really hard work
It is but it's pretty rewarding most of the time
I do but I do not have a green thumb. I can even kill a cactus somehow!
Maybe you over water them
Well it's an easy fix at least
Well maybe you need a water lily or something 😅
Yes, I love it! I have a small vegetable garden and multiple flower beds. It's for sure one of my favorite hobbies.
Sure do 😊
Love helping my mom with her garden
I also have a small rose garden 😊
I love growing all the fresh and healthy veggies I need for now and put down fir the winter mon ths
@LiamS95
Hey there 😊
Yes, you have a wonderful garden I must say. Such a variety of great food to eat. Yummy!
Maybe after I am dead and gone - in my memory you could plant a butternut squash for me. They are my favorite!
Cut them in half, get all the seeds out and bake them in the oven smothered in real butter while they are baking. Yum! Yum! 🍓
I like gardening so much I like to see nature green and wonderful
Yesss I’m slowly learning more and more every year, when I’m old I wanna be one of those retired people with an immaculate garden.
I don't like gardening but if my garden looks like a jungle, that would be cool
I mean I don't hate it either. If I just have a desired look for what my garden look like I will do it. Not as a hobby but necessary for maintaining it
* I like gardening, but don’t have time to garden, and my garden is a jungle.
too hot outside
Lucky thing 😅
my cats like gardening...
Are they good gardeners? 😅
for sure... lol
my neighbors won't even notice that they do it at their yards and gardens
What style of gardening do they do? 😂
fertilizing services... and a bit of pest control, lol
Ah very good 😅
Its the opposite. Gardening doesn't like me!!
You're truly amazing heart.
Thanks 😊
I love it I’m growing pumpkins rn
Cool, I hope they're growing well!
Yes, my mother and I like to grow flowers
Option no 4. That speaks for itself
Yes, I love it and find it very interesting
Yep I love to garden!
I like it but I don't have😔
Maybe you will one day
Well you can still do that without a garden I guess.
Nice, I always find it a good way to relax
Do you like the rain then?
I'm not wild on the rain because that's the main weather round here, I'm in Scotland and weve got spring summer autumn and winter (I will say I don't think much of the summer this year 😅)
Not really, it can get cold but very often it's wet
Usually the beginning of summer, like may sort of time
Zero interest
Do i like it, no. Can I do some of it, yeah
It’s not my thing
nooo
I grew up gardening
