Are the people you may know on Facebook the people who have been looking at your profile?

Unless it's someone I know personally, I never accept a 'friend' request without checking the person's profile, mutual friends, and things they post.

I assume that most people who send me 'friend' requests do so because they have seen at least one of my posts and then checked my profile.

I have sent 'friend' requests to perfect strangers after recognizing them as unusually bright and informed. I only want people I can learn from. But if I run across someone like that, I send them a 'friend' request along with message along to introduce myself and explain why I would like to connect.

They're for the most part people who know who you know. People who share mutual friends. People tracked as regulars in areas you go and so on.

If I go to a bar and someone adds me on FB who is a regular. When I accept FB now recommends several bar regulars who are their friends too.

Well this person in my people you may does not live any where near and we have no mutual friends we did however meet on a dating site before.., coincidence I think not

FB owns instagram too so that's connected aswell.

Not friends on Instagram or anything of the sort

Some of them are I think.
Other ones are friends of friends, or just randoms from whatever information facebook has like what school you went to or whatever.

So what about the first one that shows up on the list a lot?

It depends who you've been searching as well. Facebook may pull people up who are connected to your searches.
It's difficult to say for sure, but facebook can definitely be creepy.
They currently send me friend suggestions a few times a day as if they know who I need to be friends with.

I was only asking bc I met this guy on a dating website a couple of months ago.. they quit talking to me. Then they randomly keep showing up as my first friend people you may know on Fb. We have no friend in common and don’t even live in the same state. So just figured he must have been looking at my page

That's a good possibility unless you looked at his page first, or you've been talking to him on messenger or facebook uploaded your contacts from your phone etc.
If you honestly haven't talked to him anywhere but the dating app, and you never once searched his profile on facebook you may have caught him checking yours. LoL!

How would Facebook upload my contacts? I will say I’ve had somebody pop up in my people you may know but it was right after I we exchanged numbers. This person we exchanged numbers two months ago and they’re just now popping up on people you may know and I haven’t looked at their profile or talked to them on messenger etc. I’ve looked at theirs now of course

When you're first setting up you facebook profile you go through a step where they ask if you would like your contacts automatically uploaded so you can find your friends easier?
I always check "Not now" or something. If you said yes, then there's a good chance all of your contacts are uploaded from SMS messaging on your phone to messenger and facebook somehow.
That might explain why you're seeing people pop up on your people you may know list if you've recently added them as a contact in your phone.

He probably did search your name on facebook at some point.
I'm not sure that it means that he still does or not?
Facebook is so weird. I get all kinds of people on my people you may know list that I don't want to see, like friends of my ex.

I don't know because my ex-wife used to show up on mine everyday until I finally deleted her from the list and blocked her. I doubt she was looking at my profile, but facebook just loves to make me look at her. LoL!
I hate facebook a lot of the time.
It's creepy and they track everything you do or say so they can advertise to you.
