How do you react to finding a spider in your house/flat/other?

Assuming it's a non-poisonous one. Do you freak out? Kill them? Leave them be? Watch them?

I just greet them (not that they can understand me) and watch them. Don't bother me. I might transfer them outside but don't usually.

If it’s a spider that doesn’t really hard humans, like a daddy long leg, I will just leave him be. I usually say “hi buddy” and let them crawl in the corner. If it’s in a place it isn’t supposed to be, like a shoe or bed… I will grab it’s legs and put him some place else. I don’t fear them.


If it’s some big ole creepy spider, I will usually grab a napkin and pick the spider up and walk it outside. I usually let them live, because I don’t really think they are harmful.


If it’s a spider that I THINK is poisonous or looks like a black widow or brown recluse, I will kill it. One time I found a black widow in my shower. I drenched it in shampoo and put it down the drain.

I either just watch them and leave them to go where they want or gently pick them up and put them outside.

I wouldn't normally touch them directly because they're so tiny relative to me that I could easily injure them.

I usually just let them crawl onto my hand otherwise if that doesn't work I get them on paper.

It's not illogical. They can be deadly (poisonous) despite their size so we're programmed to fear them. Viruses are microscopic but deadly.

I know but over here in the UK they aren't really dangerous.

Yes I know, I'm in the UK also. What I mean is it might be a primal fear based on where humans originally lived.

recluses are very common here and their bite can cause necropsy in just a few days if left alone.

Depending on the size, I freak out, and no matter what size, I kill it. Usually with a fly swatter, so I can kill it at distance.
