Why does time seem to go by faster when you're older?

Question

I remember when I was 9 in 2011, it felt like forever by the time 2013 came around. Yet, I remember when my high school closed due to the pandemic in March 2020, and it's already been over two years and now I'm in college. Felt like yesterday. Where did the time go?

It is the fact that when growing up or getting older the responsobilities of a person increases gradually. Think about ur childhood the only thing that u need ia to have fun and joy playing with toys the rest is up to the parents. But when u get older u start thinking of what I have to do , what to do for making a living , when I graduate , whom I choose as friends , what hobbies should I get , what are my expectations in the life , when do I marry to my special one even have not met me , yet... So , since , thinking any kind of those questions and these are rotating continuously even non-stop in our brain we cannot even notice when the time passes or how fast it is. Then there u go u r already in ur seventies...

because there is more change that goes on when you're 9-11 than when you're 30-32. you grow more when you're young than when you're old. If you do enough things in life, keep exploring, going on new adventures, continue learning, time will feel like it goes by slower.

Yes I also feel like that. Before when I was of 8 years then 5 mins would feel so long. Now 3 hrs are also less. Days go by faster. Years feel like months felt that time.

Time is relative. For a nine year old, a year is 1/9 of his life. Feels like forever. For an eighty year old, a year is 1/80 of his life. It flies by. The latter is a tiny fraction in a huge life time while the former is a huge fraction in a short life time.

It goes by really fast. I graduated from high school in 2014 and whenever I see my high school it feels like it was yesterday. My job closed at that time for the same reason. I was finally able to go back to work June 16th of last year all the way till now

That is because our brain encodes new experiences differently than familiar ones and our subjective experience of time is tied to the number of new memories we create. The more new experiences we have, the more memories that are stored, and the faster time will seem to pass during the event.

Wait until you get into your 30s and 40s. A day just blinks by. Another week seems to pass with a daily occurrence, and the seasons seem shorter and shorter.
