Have you talked on a CB Radio or Walkie-Talkies?

If so... what was that like for you?

I have talked on the cb radio in the car, to see if someone would respond and we could talk. Also with the walkie-talkie, other times just bring them with us-'whoever was with me' to use in a store.. talking with each other. heh.

Back in the day I had a base station citizen band radio & a handheld radio as well & my friends parents had them in their vehicles. As for walkie-talkies I have a few Motorola two-way radios that are 24 years old & I the last time I used them was during a hurricane where I handed them out to my neighbors. Before that I used them when I helped my sister move & we used them for mobile to mobile communications.

I have given one of my walkie-talkies to a neighbor -friend too a few times because of weather. I liked to use them in the store for a few reasons, sometimes cell phones don't work, in a store or some other place because you can't hear it ring from loudness

20 years ago one time i was trying to see if anybody was out there and i was sitting in my driveway about 3:00am and as i was talking the person living next door thought there house way being broken into but it was my voice coming though there ansewing machine. I have picked up cellular phone calls and radio stations behind the sceens but nothing bad

long time ago, I had just made a call on a home phone we're talking.. all of a sudden.. I heard a guys voice, I told my friend 'you hear that'.. I said, hang on one sec. " I said to the guys voce, 'hello? hello'? He said, hello.. I said, we can hear each other this is trippy.. how is this happening, long story short.. we met up in person, he was in a house next to the apartments

Another one of my friends and i were in my basement i had just got this cb from a friend so i hook it to a battery and of coarse it was 230 or so and i got nothing and so my buddy and were talking for a bit and next thing you know this guy comes through crystal clear in a creepy voice i can't remember what he said but it scared the hell out of us

Yes, decades ago.
When we were kids, we had walkie talkies and, because my brother was constantly playing war with all the neighborhood kids, that's nearly all we used them for. They were okay for a short while but you could be saying stuff to the other person and they'd either not even have theirs on or wouldn't bother paying attention to what you were saying so, it was rather pointless.
About 10 years later, my brother got into CB radio, as did most people in the late `70's/early `80's and I suppose I talked a few times on it while he was running it but, nothing important came of it and I only said a few things.
About 8 years ago, I went to the mall to buy a new pair of walkie talkies because mom, after her stroke, could only stay on the first floor and I needed to get up to my bed to sleep. Sleeping on the couch was not very good, nor was it on the living room floor! But, I needed to be there to help her when she needed it so, I figured those would help but, even though it was very simple, she just couldn't get the hang of using them and there were a few times she pushed the button to call me but it never rang on my end. I never knew why, unless she was pressing the wrong button.
Now, EVERYBODY'S got a walkie talkie in their pocket!! They just call them, "cell phones", now.

well, yeh, I have also used walkie-talkies at home too.
about the cell phones, some stores the cell phones don't work in that store or even in a certain area, so walkie-talkies are still good to have

Walkie talkies are good for close distance communication such as job sites construction or close range hiking etc. However they aren't as good as the base type or mobile type of CB due to their short range antennas. At best the walkie talkies aka handheld are good for a few hundred feet or so while the base mobile type CB is good for a few miles to thousands of mile depending on antenna type antenna height and the type of CB radio in use. The average CB radio at 4 watts depending can reach on average 4 to 11 miles or further depending. While the more expensive CB radios with the needed type antennas can reach thousands of miles.

I use to have a walkie-talkie when me and my family were moving cross country. It was fun to use but it was meant for emergencies. Sometimes we'd hear strangers talking to each other on it.

I talked on a CB for over 40 years. Heck I been on a CB so long that I used to have a FCC Call sign KZSA-6430

I still talk on my daily. They work better than a cellphone in my area

I forgot that the Citizen Band used to be licensed before the fcc dropped it & a long time ago one of my mom’s friends have me a radio that had KARF-8879 printed on it so that had to be his license at the time.

I used walkie-talkies in ski patrol, and always carry a handheld VHF when guiding sea kayaking trips (as a backup - a mobile phone would be my first choice in an emergency).

Yeah plenty of times when I was younger, I even have my amateur radio license but haven’t used it in awhile

I still have almost everything I ever bought, couple of converted uniden 2510s, Lafayette walkie-talkie, cobra 29 , Yaesu and Alinco mobile Ham radios Realistic radio shack scanner and icom and such, need my base antenna for most of it

I remember the CB radio craze when I was a kid. I knew somebody that had one in his car and I used it a couple of times. I bought my kids FRS walkies and we still use them sometimes.

Yes, growing up my family had CB Radios, my Mother ( late ) had several CB Radio handles ( Sweet n Low, Strings, City Woman, etc ) Mine was Mankind
