What’s the best choice for a car?

I have been recently searching for a new vehicle but I’m not sure what would be the best choice.
They’re both pre-owned.
The first is a Honda CR-V 2021, 4066 mileage.
The second is a 2019 Nissan Murano 40,000 mileage. Price range for both is around the same. I will be finance it so I think the monthly payment will be the same. Honda will be a little more.

There's not even an argument - the Honda is significantly better built than the Nissan, and will retain much higher market value. The Nissans have serious transmission problems (that may be why this example was traded in), engine mount problems, major sunroof problems, engine-related problems that result in sluggish acceleration, and more, and these are all VERY expensive to fix.

The CR-V outsells the Murano by 4 or 5 to 1 in the US, for very good reason.

Keep in mind that Nissan hasn't really been a Japanese company since 2008, when a majority stake was sold to the French. Quality has fallen off since then, and Nissan was never at the level of Honda or Toyota to begin with.

I'm the "car buyer" for my extended family (and even friends at this point), and I don't need 2 seconds to make this decision - I'd STRONGLY recommend the Honda. My parents nearly got a CR-V 18 months ago when they wanted to move to a newish used crossover, but I couldn't get several owners to call me back to arrange a test drive/inspection, and in the meantime I found a fantastic deal on a Toyota RAV-4 instead, but the CR-V was my first choice.

Honda has dropped in quality quite a bit.

Nissan and Toyota isn't too bad. But if you can spread your budget a bit for a Hyundai it will work out better long term as it's better quality and better on fuel economy.

The last thing you want is a car always in the garage and always burning fuel.

Overall it hasn't, but there is one area that IS a problem, but it's also not unique in any way to Honda, and that is this trend of using smaller engines to get better EPA ratings but putting a turbo on them to get back the performance of a larger engine. The reason the larger engines were used in the first place is because that allowed those engines to create the needed power at a low stress level to the engine. Turbo-charging a smaller engine means that engine is significantly more stressed with just normal driving, and even more so if driven hard, and that means it's not going to last nearly as long.

There was also a related problem with oil dilution with those engines due to the direct-fuel-injection design, which made the problem much worse. Honda has done a re-design to address the latter problem - time will tell how effective it was, but it seems to be a lot better - but the over-stressing of too-small turboed engines is a problem that's not going away. I suppose you can argue that they don't WANT these cars lasting a long time, because ICE engines are so evil (even though electric cars are no cleaner, and many are dirtier and more harmful to the planet overall).

Mywife has a Ford Escape. It is a nice little car that seems a lot bigger than it is. It has a powerful engine and has good throttle response. . The interior is comfortable. I am 6 feet tall and I have plenty of leg room. It has AWD and handles really good in the snow. It was reasonably priced and is very dependable. My wife previously had a 2006 Escape and drove it for 14 years and she puts a lot of miles on her car.

I’d go with the Honda if you can afford it. They might have fixed it by now but the Nissan suvs were plagued with transmission problems for a long time

Honda seems nice. it's a new car with less mileage and the brand seems a good one than Nissan too.

Personally, I'd go with a small pickup rather than a crossover.

My choice would be a subaru but since it's not an option here I'm going with the honda
