Do we sometimes ignore our gut instincts?

I got out of a long-term toxic relationship last year. However this is the irony:

Long ago, these were my words that he never forgot:
''If you ever get me pregnant, I'm going to abort it. That's right, I'll terminate it. I'm not carrying your child. I don't like kids''.

Obviously if a woman isn't excited about bearing your child, there is something off. In the end, it was a good reason in my case. I said this without knowing he was indeed a legitimate person with sociopathy. I have a feeling several other women (and men) have an idea who they're dealing with but ignore that gut instinct. Do we sometimes ignore it?

Had I gotten pregnant with him, it would've been horrible.

Years later he admitted that if I had never said I'll abort his child, he would've purposely gotten me pregnant and proceed to having a family with me. I would've been trapped in a nightmare basically.
