Fish can’t be ‘afraid’ at all. Fish are not intelligent enough to have the capability to feel complex emotions such as fear, anger, ecstasy and all of it.

Birds on the other hand are about as intelligent as mammals. There are some birds which are indeed very very dumb but some birds are even more intelligent than some mammals.

I witnessed complex emotions with my goldfish. Goldfish/fish are a lot more intelligent then people give them credit for.

There’s nothing yet to prove that goldfish or any fish can feel such emotions but even if they do, it would still be very far from the level of complex emotions that mammals are able to feel.

A fish that is afraid he is a bird that can't fly or swim.
I would take him to a shrink and have him sized up, at least 10 sizes. That would boost his confidence, make him realized that to be a bird that size he would have to be an ostrich, and he would know that ostriches can't fly. Problem solved.

Now I just need an aquarium.

I think it would be very challenging for the fish to stay alive, don’t they need to move, even if it’s ever so slightly, to get water to pass over their gills and draw oxygen?
For that reason, I choose fish

i feel like it'd be hard to realise if a fish was scared to swim? plus... it's a bit stupid i guess, because pet fish can only live in water so that's like saying if a human was scared to walk you know?

The fish, It needs water. A bird doesn't need to fly. Whenever they move they actually swim it would be pretty crazy.

Definitely a bird afraid to fly because a fish is already in water and floating. A bird can walk and climb but a fish has to move somehow, it can’t just endlessly float.
