What was your "Oh shit, I'm going to die" moment?

I think I was 7 years old at the time. I was eating ice because I saw one of my relative do it, since she loves eating ice. So, I was eating ice and one ice slipped in my throat and I choked on it. I thought I was going to die, so I panicked. Then, the ice slid down my throat and fell. It was one of the most uncomfortable experiences. I had told my aunt and she told me the most obvious explanation: ice melts. Years later, I've realized that humans are warm blooded, and that ice wouldn't have gotten stuck in my throat for long because the insides of my body are warm - warm enough to melt ice.

Soo many experiences, I'm pretty sure I'm half dead already... beyond when that asshole tried to kill me, flipping my atv over and being pinned under it, or when a mini van pulled out in front of me on my motorcycle.

Or this one time my friends and I decided to break a hole through the ice at the lake and I dived into go swimming and came up under the ice and couldn't find the hole again... almost ran out of air and froze to death finding it. Won't be doing that again... but yeah lots of times.

Maybe I just got nerves of steel, but even with some of the definite close calls I’ve had it’s more of an “Shit how do I get outta this” reaction than “Imm gonna die”
Had a few close calls in cars and bikes, been in a bush plane that lost power, been caught in a few scary squalls on boats, had a couple slips in precarious places.

One time when I was about 12-13 years old I got caught between two streetcars (trollies) going at full speed once. 😬 I had less than a foot of space on each side of me and all I could do was close my eyes and concentrate on being as still as possible.

I've tried to jump onto a busy highway, off a bridge, etc. Other than that, one coaster and swing rides wouldn't stay clicked/locked and i held on for dear life, yet i still enjoy theme parks. I dont fear death, just how and when

Actually and when my ex held a gun to my stomach. That was prob the worse... yet he was the same ex who caught my hand when i jumped off the bridge and he pulled me back over the rail. I was basically jumping to fall onto straight rocks at the bottom. Funny how he can be a hero and attempted murderer all in one 💀

I was paralyzed with fear and begged him not to shoot me. Then he smirked, kiss my lips, and said “i could never hurt you”. Soon as he put the gun away, i ran past the football field as far as i could. We were under thenconcession stand at a homecoming game. It was raining so although many were under there with us, he was leaning on me to where others couldnt see the gun... his dumbass cousin’s stepdad gave them all glocks as early Christmas presents. No 15 year old needed a gun especially in HS. I was breaking up because right after we had sex the day before, he was going to takeout another girl who he promised to takeout prior to us getting back together. So i was telling him he hadn't tchanged and i wanted to breakup. But he saw me coming out of the dugout with 3 guys which looked bad but it was lots of girls and guys sitting down there since we didn't want to watch the homecoming football game. Basically he could cheat but the thought of me even being with someone else (after we broke up) pissed him off enough to threaten me with a gun.

I had two moments like that. The first was when I was almost hit by a bus at the age of 16. It didn't happen because the driver was able to stop all of sudden, it was only a matter of seconds.
The second moment was when I was 22. I had an huge fight with my mother and at one point she went to the kitchen. I thought she was going to pick a knife to kill me.

Being lost in the mountains, climbing out of a ravine, I took hold of a large stone to pull myself up and it came off in my hands. I fell back into the stream and bent my old L-frame rucksack half-way to an H-frame.

That, and my motorcycle experience.

@Pink2000 Wow, that's insane. I know someone who was at work when his building was hit by the EF5 that tore through Joplin, Missouri about 10 years ago. To this day he doesn't like talking about it. Thankfully you survived!

But yeah, that's pretty bad. I can totally understand why that would be really traumatic, especially in the moment. I had another friend in Missouri this past December who was on the highway at during a tornado warning in his immediate area with no way to get off. It was at night too, so he couldn't see anything. Luckily nothing happened to him, but he said it was really nerve-wracking. I had the same kind of situation happen to me one time when I was a kid while visiting family in Ohio. We were driving back from town to my grandparent's house and we had the radio on, listening to where the tornado was in our immediate area, and I kept looking at the lightning strikes outside to see if they would light up a funnel cloud in the pitch black of the night.

As for me, I live in Canada, so my area doesn't get that many severe tornadoes (mostly EF2s and 3s), but well... I always have a hard time telling this story because it can be sort of hard to believe, but one of the scariest weather situations I was ever caught up in was at a fairgrounds where I was camping. The sky turned dark, the air went still and then a horrendous wind ripped through and blew just about everything but people's cars away. I was inside my tent, barely able to keep it (and myself) from blowing away. Then the air went still again and literally 6... six funnel clouds formed all around me like roman pillars in the sky and I was in the exact center of it. Two of them touched down - one to the west and one to the east - but the other four didn't, and luckily the two that did touch down only stayed down intermittently for a minute or so. I was scared out of my mind. The worst part of it was (and I swear on my own mother's life this happened), when the funnel clouds began to form I said to my dad, "Dad! Let's go! We need to find shelter!" (there wasn't any, other than the flimsy bathroom building on the fairgrounds), and my dad literally replied: "No, I want to see what happens"(!!!). 😨 Again, luckily nothing happened, but it was really scary.

To be honest, I don't know why I didn't think of that to mention for my own post. lol I'm a pretty outdoorsy kind of guy, so I have actually been caught up in some pretty crazy weather stuff many times. Including lightning strikes within feet of me at least four times (twice in a car, once while inside and once on a bus where it struck the exact spot I was standing only 7-8 seconds after I got on 😬), as well as a tornado at the end of my street when I was asleep when I was about 9, getting caught in hail storms and being chased down by really bad storms, etc. I love Mother Nature, but I swear she tries to kill me sometimes. lol 😰 Which is why I don't mess around when the weather gets nasty.
