Is the unwritten stay out of your wife's purse/husband's wallet practice a uniquely American thing?

If I'm in another room and ask my husband to get something from my purse, he brings me the purse so I can go in and get whatever I need myself. Likewise, if he tells me to get something out of his wallet, I take it to him and let him go in for it.

This is common where I live, and with the people I know.

What about other countries beside the US, or US regions besides the Midwest, is this common practice?

I already know there will be several comments about women's purses containing a lot of clutter, and even kitchen sinks. You're free, of course, to make them, but I'm more interested in answers to the question.

Goodness, now that I think of it I've never been in that situation with my partner. But I wouldn't mind him going through my purse, I have nothing to hide 😅

never seen or heard about that around here or with family... we're not that secretive, lol

Lol, gotcha. I don't think it's a matter of secrecy around here as it is a show of respect. Or maybe a time-saver so the one needing something doesn't have to root through contents lol.

the first thing came to mind was me being around age five or six, and hanging around the table were my mother and her bff's would play poker on the weekends, lol... as the busboy, it was quite common for me to go and retrieve stuff from their purses

same in my family, go get me this or that from my purse, and any of us cousins (well not all, some cousins could not be trusted lmao) would just dive into them with no issue

one thing though, I cannot think of any man that does not have their wallet with him at all times, so nevermind my comment about "secretive" a man's wallet is usually closer than their guns, and now smartphones... lol

My dad, brothers, and now my husband usually put their wallets, keys, and coins in a dump tray on their dressers after work or at the end of their day. They usually have their phones velcro'd to them though.

lol... that took me back to the times in which I just had one or two keys at the most

now I have 12 of them, and I'm the one with the less keys in the family
