Are you willing to sacrifice coherence to play with category structures?

For certain topics, and for certain depths, categorical structure and coherence have become impossible for me to manage in a meaningful way. I have had objects/phenomena that fit inside of multiple categories, and my organizational scheme had no effect on coherence. In fact, increased coherence has decreased coherence for some of my readers. And there are times when I had to play with categorical structures to increase coherence. I had to organize my work in different ways to appeal to different disciplines.

In the end, I guess that the answer is a definite "No. Never." If I play with structures, it is in an attempt to increase coherence. Everything I do is in the name of coherence.

I have had many students who play this game intentionally, and they make the sacrifice you are mentioning. They do this in an attempt to obfuscate their meanings, increase their word count, and stretch out their premises. I assume that this is a common tool for most modern undergraduates, particularly underclassmen.
