How do hermits enjoy their time in solitude?

My aunt and uncle were hermits and hoarders. They were sweet people, but my uncle was traumatized by the Vietnam war so he didn't like leaving the house much. My aunt couldn't drive b/c her diabetes.

Well I think people who live in solitude must like it, because otherwise they’d be joining everyone else and having company. Sometimes they prefer it, and some might be depressed. But I am one who likes being alone because I don’t have to answer to anyone, I can do what I like, go to sleep when I want , and not have to listen to noise. I recharge in my solitude and although I’d love to share time with another, for the meantime this is what I enjoy.

They seem to do fine. But then again, they call themselves out for cheating at Chess or Cards and they are Slumlords when they refuse to pay themselves rent and try and evict themselves. They forget to send their self a Birthday card and get pissed when no one else does the dishes. Now the question is, can you call hermits normal?
