Did you know a giraffes long neck is for carrying their young?

When I was a little girl I was taught their long necks were for reaching high leaves. Later I heard the theory they were for fighting. However it turns out giraffes are really boring to watch and hardly anyone has bothered for more than half an hour. Now using hidden cameras scientists have learnt they use their long necks to keep their young out of the reach of predators. Scientists also believe it helps them them acclimatise to heights.

Another fun fact: I bet no one told you this when you were a little boy. All the male giraffes kept in the zoo must undergo male-to-female surgery. That's because neckties for giraffes are so damn expensive. So, that's right. Giraffes are all transsexuals.

Did you know that the name giraffe was first uttered when a British son of a lord was doing his "grand tour" in Africa and came across a giraffe birthing. Seeing the young getting dropped from a great height he pitied the newborn and sighed: "Geez! Rough!" And then proceeded to shoot them both with an elephant gun, "for fun".

@purplepoppy You always find interesting things but this time, I think this is fake news. AFIK, giraffes are very protective of their young, and ward off predators by using their strong legs and sharp hooves. The photo has been photoshopped.
