This is another in a series of geography questions. Each question will contain several things about a country and the goal is to guess what country that is. We'll try to go through the alphabet in order, and have a new question each day.

Things about this country:

The correct answer is Belgium.

Belgium for sure.
The flag is red, yellow and black. They speak French, German and I guess maybe Flemish? They're famous for their beer. The battle of Waterloo (where Napoleon was defeated) was in Belgium. 165 medals doesn't sound like many at all (team GB won 50+ just at the London Olympics), and Belgium is a small country that sucks at sports, so that fits too.

I'm disappointed in wasn't something more obscure, like Benin.

I didn't cheat honestly but the statement;

Roman Emperors very seldom participated in direct battles they let their generals do it. So I figured its either some obscure Holy Roman Empire / Autsro-Hungarian or its Napoleon.

I know this one hen you mentioned breweries, if I am correct. It is none other than Belgium, is it not? I know they speak French. A friend of mine went there. It's right next to Holland.

Good analysis... I don't want to give away the correct answer yet, but I would like to correct one misconception we Americans have, and that has been pointed out to me by several Dutch colleagues. Holland is actually an area within the Netherlands in the upper east, so your answer is next to The Netherlands but not next to Holland.

I thought The Netherlands was another name for the country, Holland. Hmmm... I was in Amsterdam years ago.

Belgium (Its flag contains a large black creature, it is a major exporter of beer, and it's adjacent to France, so maybe it has a monument commemorating Napoleon's defeat. Two of its official languages are French and German, but I'm not sure what the third one is.)

After looking at the comments, I realized that I'd mistaken the flag of Flanders (a part of Belgium) for the national Belgian flag. I didn't know that Waterloo was in Belgium. I'm not really a history buff.

Three languages sounds about right. I'll show my ignorance and guess :) I don't think Belgium is a language. I'm thinking Dutch and French. The third one is probably either German or Flemish (I don't know if Flemish is a language).

I was going to guess The Bahamas, but I don't think they've won a lot of gold medals. Considering you said they had breweries, it's probably European and near Germany or something. Belgium? Home of the waffle?
