How to handle harassment on the street?

In my neighbourhood is a homeless man who always stands in front of a building and beggs for money. When I walk by he calls my sexist names. Today he shouted „You slut!!! I will beat you into hospital!!!“ I feel really harassed by him. What would be the best way to handle this?

I've dealt with this too. Easiest thing to do is ignore them and keep walking. I ALWAYS have pepper spray and taser in my purse, and a spike on my keys. I've never had to use them luckily.

Ignore or notify police? In my area they will remove him and tell him to stay off the block. Not sure how yours will react though.
