Nowadays it's a euphemism for getting pregnant. There's an old pregnancy test that used a rabbit. There are much better tests now.

It’s a silly phrase. The pregnancy tests all squired the rabbit to be killed to check the result. the rabbit always died. —but the phrase is used to reference a positive pregnancy test.
